    DESCRIPTION

    This position is a member of the team that handles the day to day fuel requirements for KCS.  This position is responsible for creating fuel requisitions, entering fuel Goods Receipts, performing month-end close process and account reconciliations. This position also performs high-level account analysis, audits fuel invoices, prepares and posts accruals and reclasses. This role calculates and prepares data for journal entries and reviews general ledger and related financial statements for reasonableness. This position accumulates and analyzes information for the preparation of internal reports and presentations. This role exhibits meticulous attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to solve problems independently and displays a sense of urgency.

     

    ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Provides support in the monthly close of the General Ledger for all accounts related to fuel used in locomotives. This includes respective analysis, journal entry processing, and completion of account reconciliations.
    • Performs monthly inventory roll-forward and physical inventory adjustments for fuel storage tanks in the US and is able to notice patterns in data and turn them into useful insights.
    • Ensures the value of inventory on hand is accurate in all storage locations.
    • Monitors fuel market prices and provides support to the procurement team.
    • Creates Purchase Requisitions for all fuel used in locomotives.
    • Enters Good Receipts in SAP for all fuel related items and ensures Purchase Orders are in balance.
    • Works directly with fuel vendors to resolve price or quantity discrepancies.
    • Works with the Accounts Payable department to make sure fuel vendors are paid on time and resolves any discrepancies.
    • Audits fuel invoices to ensure adherence to contract specifications.
    • Assists in various research projects related to fuel supply in the U.S. and provides recommendations to the procurement team.
    • Adheres to SOX requirements and supports the annual audit process.
    • Identifies, develops and implements process improvement opportunities.

    IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    REQUIRED

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, or enrolled in an accredited program with less than one year until graduation
    • or equivalent combination of education and experience

     

    PREFERRED

    • Experience in preparation and production of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting data.
    • SAP MM/FI/CO (or similar Material Management or General Ledger) experience.
    • Database/financial reporting tools experience ().
    • Railroad accounting experience.
    • Bilingual: English/Spanish.

     

     WORKING CONDITIONS

    • This position has a regular full time schedule with a normal work week of Monday through Friday. There may be a need for occasional work after hours or weekends.
    • This position may require minimal travel up to 10% of the time.
    • Strong excel skills and communication skills.
    • Able to manage competing tasks in compliance with company policies.
