    JOB DESCRIPTION FOR ENGINEER NETWORK (IV)   

    JOB SUMMARY

    This position leads the companies most complex projects for planning, installing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting the network across LAN and WAN environments as well as provide coaching and mentoring to all other members of the Network team.

    Recognized within the organization as a functional expert with specialized depth and/or breadth of knowledge. Works independently, with guidance only in the most complex situations. Solves complex problems; identifies new solutions using a broad perspective and understanding. Leads large-scale projects with substantial resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. May lead a project team with influence over contribution of others. Translates functional vision into plans and guides their execution.

     

    JOB DUTIES

    • Leads the evaluation, recommendation and design of current and future network technologies, including network upgrades, deployments and expansions.
    • Owns architectural and engineering for one or more network technologies across the KCS enterprise.
    • Develops standards and policies for protocols, implementation procedures.
    • Develops strategies and direction for network systems solutions using current and emerging technologies.
    • Monitors network performance, ensures capacity planning is performed, and is proactive in accessing and making recommendations for improvement.
    • Plans, installs, configures, administers, and troubleshoots the network systems for LAN and WAN environments.
    • Exemplifies KCS Vision, Values, and Culture in each and every interaction with team, clients, and stakeholders.
    • Participate in an On-Call Rotation for US and MX Network.
    • Participate and technically lead troubleshooting and project related conference calls. Able to convey technical information in a manner suitable to the audience.
    • Must have a demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and communicate in English effectively through voice and email.

     

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study

    • 90% English Proficiency both in reading, writing & speaking. This would include technical, business and casual situations.

    • MINIMUM SEVEN (7) YEARS OF RELEVANT PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE, INCLUDING SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE OF A DISCIPLINE UTILIZED TO LEAD AN AREA OF OUR BUSINESS, OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum seven (7) years experience working with Cisco Routing & Switching technologies.

    • Minimum seven (y) years experience working with any other Cisco technology like: Security, Network Automation, Wireless, Data Center or Voice.

    • Minimum seven (7) years experience working with network & monitoring tools like: Netscout, Solarwinds, WireShark.

    • Ability to work after hours and on weekends if needed, and participate in an on-call rotation

    • Ability to plan IP utilization and networks, DHCP, DNS, redundancy, failover, and high availability

    • Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve network, application and performance issues

    • Patience and ability to work in a change management model with a great attention to detail and best practices

    • Ability to work well in a dynamic, high-pressure, team-oriented environment

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate well with those of all technical levels, including end users

    • Willingness and ability to train and teach others and document architecture, designs and changes

     

    PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

    • Expert knowledge of: Cisco NEXUS (7K, 5K, 2K) switches and routers, Cisco IOS, IOS-XE and NX-OS,TCP/IP, LAN switching, routing and routing protocols, Access Lists, NAT, VPNs and VLANs,
    • Expert knowledge of dynamic routing, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP and route redistribution.
    • Experience with: IPSec Site-to-Site VPNs, MPLS, Fiber Optic, and Gigabit and Metro Ethernet, Cisco voice applications,
    • Intermediate knowledge of F5 load balancers
    • Experience with Cisco UCS, Experience with Cisco OTV, Cisco wireless controllers, mesh bridges, NetScout and Solarwinds
    • Experience with Cisco FirePower Firewalls.
    • Intermediate experience with Cisco ISE.
    • Ability to plan IP utilization and networks, DHCP, DNS, redundancy, failover, and high availability
    • Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve network, application and performance issues
    • Excellent troubleshooting abilities

    CERTIFICATIONS

    • CCNP R&S/Enterprise
    • CCNP Data Center, Collaboration OR Security
    • ITIL OSA/RCV Certification or knowledge.
    • F5 LTM, F5 DNS Certification or knowledge.
    • Any SCRUM or Agile Certification

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Qualifications

    HS diploma or equivalent with 5-6 years of relevant administrative/operational support in manufacturing operations or office environment directly related to the duties of the job, OR demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable number of years of work experience.  May possess additional education certification in this level.

    Requires excellent knowledge of functional area(s) related to the job or good knowledge related to a professional field of work.  Able to consistently apply applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and program objectives when carrying out the duties of the job.  May provide oversight of work conducted by junior level staff and/or review/audit work for accuracy.  Must have advanced knowledge of technology to include computers and software programs such as MS Office or MAC word processing, spreadsheets or other programs specific to the job in order to complete job duties successfully.  Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively across departments when completing assignments.

    Must have strong organizational skills with ability to manage deadlines and prioritize workload and make adjustment to meet business needs.

    Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
