JOB SUMMARY:

As an KCS intern you will participate in a internship program with our Health, Safety, and Environmental team working on a combination of environmental and hazmat preparedness related projects. KCS interns will have the opportunity to work alongside some of Kansas City’s sharpest professionals, network with senior leaders, and actively contribute to real world business challenges while learning about the Railroad industry.  You will be afforded the opportunity to experience what Railroad culture is all about. Kansas City Southern Railway Company is a place where exceptional talent comes together to capitalize on strategic rail opportunities across North America.

JOB DUTIES CAN INCLUDE:

• Assist with review of current waste handling practices, review of applicable regulations and development of best management practices and processes.
• Develop and implement plastic flake, powder and pellet pollution prevention awareness for training for transload operators and affected KCS employees. Draft recommended guidance for best management practices at transload facilities.
• Support KCS vendor and staff to implement an energy management program, assess facility consumption and recommend options for improvement.
• Support KCS staff and partners to develop cost-effective projects that promote monarch and native pollinator conservation and community awareness of the KCS network. Other projects may be assigned
• Exemplifies KCS Vision, Values, and Culture in each and every interaction with team, clients, and stakeholders.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• College Sophmore or Junior from a four-year college or university, preferably in a environmental, industrial, Engineering, or related degree program
