    JOB SUMMARY

    The Vice President of Labor Relations sets the strategy for US and Mexico Labor relations programs and ensures compliance with policies and practices. This role develops and implements policies and procedures, including grievance procedures, and provides information, guidance and direction on Labor Relations programs, processes, and procedures to employees and managers.

     

    JOB DUTIES

    • Develops and implements the Company’s US and Mexico Labor Relations strategies and policies to align with business needs.
    • Negotiates and administers union collective bargaining agreements on behalf of the Company.
    • Leads and develops the team responsible for the management, application and compliance of the Company’s collective bargaining agreements.
    • Leads, develops and implements processes and procedures to develop institutional knowledge regarding new and/or existing collective bargaining agreements.
    • Collaborates with various departments to determine operating objectives and evaluates risks and benefits when executing policies, procedures and negotiated agreement changes; and works with legal counsel to mitigate risk, when needed.
    • Represents the Company on various working committees of the National Carriers Conference Committee (“NCCC”) and other industry organizations in the US and Mexico.
    • Supports NCCC during national bargaining, overseeing the benchmarking of past practices and analyzing collective bargaining agreement requirements.
    • Represents the Labor Relations team in cross-functional efforts affecting labor in the US and Mexico.
    • Exemplifies KCS Vision, Values, and Culture in each and every interaction with team, clients, and stakeholders.

     

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study
    • Minimum fifteen (15) years of relevant professional experience, including leading and managing complex projects or programs with outcome focused deliverables, or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Minimum eight (8) years of managerial experience

     

    PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

    • Graduate degree; Industrial and Labor Relations, MBA or JD.
    • Relevant Labor Relations experience in the railroad industry.
    • Proficiency in English and Spanish, at a written and spoken level.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Ability to communicate effectively with team, clients, and stakeholders;
    • Ability to write clearly and effectively;
    • Excellent time management skills.
    • This position has a regular full time schedule with a normal work week of Monday through Friday. There may be a need for occasional work after hours or weekends.
    • Business travel is an essential requirement of this job. Employees must be able and willing to travel away from their primary work location up to 25% of the time.
