    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Provides the necessary purchasing skills to support the purchasing department and the plants in achieving optimal levels of safety, quality, productivity and delivery objectives to assure internal and external customer satisfaction.

     

    JOB TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The following job/task functions have been identified as the core functions of this position. However, the supervisor or manager may assign additional duties associated with this position.

    • Provides input into the development of departmental strategic goals
    • Responsible for meeting purchasing metrics and providing the information for the purchasing performance metrics.
    • Maintains highly confidential information sensitive to the Company’s business and purchasing strategy.
    • Actively participates in the resolution of commercial issues as they relate to supply continuity concerns.
    • Develops and implements innovative and effective purchasing policies and activities to meet and exceed purchasing objectives.
    • Analyzes and assess quotes for timeliness, accuracy, quality, price and service as necessary to meet program and customer requirements.
    • Based on quote analysis recommends or selects suppliers according to purchase policy guidelines and consistent with commodity strategies.
    • Responsible for understanding all plant requirements for the assigned commodities in order to leverage buying power.
    • Pursues cost saving initiatives and supports engineering change management system with required commercial information.
    • Negotiates vendor contracts including price, quality, payment terms, and service, along with customization of the contract to fit the needs of the plants.
    • Collects, analyzes and monitors category specific information relating to spend, supplier performance, user adoption and compliance, standards and specifications and applicable industry benchmarks.
    • Responsible for purchasing complex commodities with large dollar amounts.
    • Responsible for developing and maintaining a supplier base that supports strategic growth strategies that focus on quality, delivery, productivity and innovation.
    • Responsible for execution of strategic supplier agreements.
    • Greater than 20% of time in customer facing/interactive role supporting sales and program management.
    • Prepares reports, presentations and other data as needed. Coordinates business needs with cross functional organizations.
    • Assists in the development and implementation of commodity strategies to support purchasing and corporate objectives.

     

    LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Mentors less experienced purchasing colleagues.
    • Ability to identify, select, train purchasing talent
    • Provides model behavior to demonstrate corporate values.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent purchasing experience required / Master Degree preferred. CPM a plus.
    • Minimum eight (8) or more years purchasing experience, and two (2) years of management experience.
    • Must be knowledgeable of marketplace cost drivers.
    • Must have strong knowledge of the OEMs as well as plant operations.
    • Effective negotiating skills.
    • Ability to learn a purchase order system.
    • Ability to use creative methods to manage supply agreements.
    • Experience in using purchasing tools such as market testing, reverse auctions, etc.
    • Ability to understand complex equipment and production projects
    • Solid presentation and communication skills
    • Strong finance, quantitative, and analytical skills
    • Understanding of manufacturing processes and techniques (TQM, Six Sigma, etc.)
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work well with others in a team environment with proven interpersonal skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
    • Ability to read and write in English and perform mathematical calculations.
