    JOB SUMMARY

    This position is responsible for ensuring efficient operations at all KCS intermodal and automotive facilities, timely and safe movement of trains and freight, exceptional customer satisfaction and that all terminals are secure. It oversees equipment leases, the off hire process and depreciated value process. It ensures sufficient equipment supply to meet the volume demand. This position establishes and oversees the intermodal and automotive operating budgets. It develop short term and long term strategic operating plans to support five (5) year volume forecast for Intermodal and Automotive. It establishes the cultural values, strategic direction, and structure of the group.

    Looks beyond existing methodologies and applies industry expertise to define and resolve complex issues. Works on a variety of issues where analysis requires evaluation of numerous factors, including business objectives and trends. Adapts and executes business plans for departments or functional area; contributes to business unit strategy. Translates company and business unit objectives into functional strategic plans that impact operating results. Secures and deploys resources to achieve results aligned with business unit and company goals, commitments and financial responsibilities. Has overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities and recommending and implementing changes to methods. Leads a broad functional global area of the enterprise. Directs the efforts of the team through subsidiary leaders or highly analytical or technical professionals with a focus on strategic work. Participates in the interview and selection process, provides training and mentorship, offers career development guidance, and is engaged in performance management. Provides timely and constructive coaching and feedback; develops staff and provides challenging opportunities. Position reports to a company executive. Oversight responsibilities include both U.S. and Mexico.

     

    JOB DUTIES

    • Oversees the operations of all intermodal and automotive facilities and identifies areas to improve efficiency.
    • Directs the equipment lease, the off hire and depreciated value processes.
    • Directs the intermodal market product development in conjunction with KCSR / KCSM Transportation and Service Design teams.
    • Ensures the strategic flow of equipment to maximize profits and reduce costs.
    • Determines need for new terminals and/or current terminals expansion to meet Marketing's five (5) year plan.
    • Oversees service design which includes analysis of loading patterns and terminal layouts.
    • Develops and operates within the approved operating budgets.
    • Complies with all company safety rules and appropriate regulations.
    • Ensures the safe and secure physical condition of the terminals.
    • Cooperates as a Tier 3 support to Customer Contact center and Sales and Marketing related to intermodal and auto terminal issues.
    • Identifies and implements new service opportunities.
    • Contributes to successful completion of critical projects or initiatives.
    • Exemplifies KCS Vision, Values, and Culture in each and every interaction with team, clients, and stakeholders.

     

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study
    • Minimum twelve (12) years of relevant professional experience, including leading and managing complex projects or programs with outcome focused deliverables, or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Minimum five (5) years of managerial experience

     

     PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

    • Operations experience in the Railroad industry with understanding of intermodal terminals
    • Spanish language skills are preferred with cross border management responsibilities
