The NCI-designated Cancer Center at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute is dedicated to recruiting the most brilliant cancer research scientists. We are currently seeking a highly motivated faculty member with expertise and an outstanding track record in computational cancer biology, systems biology of cancer, and/or mathematical modeling of tumor initiation, development and/or therapy resistance. We are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in applying multi-omic approaches including bulk and single-cell transcriptomic, epigenomic and/or proteomic technologies to animal models or human organoid or patient-derived tumor models. The candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a number of collaborative scientific initiatives on epigenomics, emerging single-cell technologies and computational biology involving other experts with similar interests in the neighborhood including researchers at Scripps, Salk and UCSD. San Diego researchers are world-leaders in the development of these technologies. The collaborative research environment in San Diego is second to none.

Our Cancer Center provides a dynamic setting that supports and stimulates outstanding science. There are no required teaching or administrative responsibilities, allowing our faculty to focus on their cutting edge research. A comprehensive support system is provided by the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant which maintains world-class shared resources and Core facilities, and by collaborative and energetic colleagues who are also leaders in their fields. Our dedication to excellence gives our scientists a substantial competitive advantage as they work across disciplines and share knowledge, driving one another to pursue big ideas and achieve transformational discoveries. We are committed to recruiting and supporting a diverse scientific community and seek to create a faculty of individuals from different backgrounds with a wide range of perspectives and experiences.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a ground-breaking scientific program addressing fundamental research questions in cancer biology but should be equally interested in seeking opportunities to translate her/his findings into potential therapeutic applications and/or clinical benefit for patients. Cancer Center faculty are expected to secure support from diverse funding sources to establish rigorous and competitive research programs addressing unmet clinical needs. Faculty also have the opportunity to collaborate with one another on common research interests and to explore development of translational projects with our Prebys Center, the Institute’s state-of-the-art center for drug discovery and chemical biology.

    Required Skills Required Experience

Faculty positions require a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. and an outstanding record of publications and research accomplishments relevant to the focus areas. Chosen candidates are expected to establish well-supported, rigorous and competitive research programs based on fundamental mechanisms that can address unmet clinical needs.
