POSITION SUMMARY:

An electrician is responsible for inspecting, servicing, and maintaining diesel locomotive electrical systems in accordance with company guidelines and federal regulations; detecting and diagnosing diesel engine electrical malfunctions, and making necessary repairs using hand tools, overhead cranes and machine tools; operating forklifts, cranes, and tractors; and using torches and welders while performing such work in a safe manner.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  

• High School diploma or GED equivalent
• Must have a Journeyman Electrician License
• Must possess a valid driver's license; demonstration of mechanical aptitude; and sufficient reading and comprehension skills to successfully complete any required training.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Electricians ordinarily work in mechanical shop environments, but sometimes on line-of-road. An electrician must therefore be prepared to work in all types of weather conditions, for extended periods of time. While an electrician position entails primarily shift work, including weekends, from time-to-time overtime may be required.

UNION MEMBERSHIP: 

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement and the successful applicant will be required to join the union. Monthly union dues are required and will be deducted from the employee's paycheck.
