  • Responsibilities

    The Associate Director of Grants and Contracts will be responsible for the Office of Grants and Contracts in the absence of the Director. The position along with the Director will promote and ensure compliance with federal, state, institutional, and other regulations including OMB Super Circular cost principles. Supervise the day-to-day tasks to maintain labor distributions to ensure that Grants and other Funds in the general ledger are appropriately being charged for labor. Coordinate with Human Resources and Office of Budget and Planning, Office of Controller on personnel budgeting issues. This position prepares governmental and private reports, and assists the Director in analytical work such as reconciling control accounts and grant analysis and monitoring.

     

    • Track metrics to manage the operations and compliance of sponsored projects and Meharry Medical College • Assist in interpretation, analysis, and monitoring of all grants and contracts • Monitor potential budget overspending across sponsored funds. • Create financial reports to assist PIs in resource planning and project management. • Verify that costs (direct and indirect) and justifications are within federal, state and institutional guidelines. • Prepares progress and close-out of financial reports as required by granting agencies. • Oversees the college’s Time and Effort Certification Program to ensure compliance with OMB Super Circular cost principles. • Accounts for grants and contracts assets, liabilities, revenues, expenditures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and with contractual and regulatory requirements. • Advise and assist Financial Analysts during daily operations.

     

    Required Skills

    • Grant management -General knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies related to research compliance such as OMB Super Circular and the NIH Grants Policy Statement. Also knowledgeable about regulations governing the protection of human subjects, animal welfare, conflicts of interest, environmental health and safety, intellectual property, research safety, and other regulatory areas. • Analytical Skills- Proficiency in data analysis. Strong working knowledge of Excel is required • Leadership - ability to provide leadership across a broad array of research administration functions, including effective integration both amongst the Post Award Office and research community. • Customer Service Orientation - ability to develop strong relationships and trust internally - with senior administrators, College Deans, Department Chairs and members of the faculty at the College; as well as externally with federal agencies and other key constituents. • Communication - strong oral and written communication and presentation skills. Proactive communication of information, candid dialogue and clearly defined expectations. • Problem Solving - ability to anticipate problems and engage in complex problem solving, dispute resolution and decision making. • Results Oriented - ability to establish strategic and operational goals and metrics to demonstrate progress. • Accountability - accept responsibility to develop and mentor staff to achieve high performance levels. • Information Technology - knowledge of information systems supporting research and ability to integrate them at the central and academic unit level. • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

    Required Experience

    Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related degree from an accredited college or university. At least three (3) years of experience in Higher Education grants and budget administration is required. Experience with Ellucian Banner software preferred. A working knowledge of grants policies and how they relate to purchasing, accounting, personnel and budgeting is required. Master’s degree preferred.
