    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Nurse Practitioner (NP) primary activity will be to perform COVID testing of patients on site at MMG clinics and in the Nashville community at COVID testing sites and with our mobile unit. The NP will also oversee program activities and quality improvement.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES):

    • Demonstrate clinical expertise in assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and the therapeutic management of patients.
    • Perform COVID testing in the community at sites run by Meharry, and for patients at MMG clinics. Use research and theoretical principles in implementing therapies that restore health, minimize complications, and manage risk factors; as we strive to integrate patient care across the continuum of health care services in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, families, and patients.
    • Supervision of quality management and performance improvement and assistance in data management as needed.
    • Supervise medical assistants and patient service representatives (PSR) who will be assisting with COVID testing, monitoring of inventory, and coordination of testing activities.

    Required Skills

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Core Competencies: Patient Assessment, Clinical Procedure with Scope of Service.
    • The NP must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide testing and referrals for care appropriate for patients with COVID19
    • Actively participate in Quality Management and Performance Improvement Programs.
    • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic testing and treatments commonly prescribed.
    • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
    • Knowledge of OSHA, Infection Control, and safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment.
    • Knowledge of electronic chart documentation requirements and recording test results.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
    • Ability to work with multiple agencies and a multidisciplinary team.
    • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with vulnerable and complex patients, diverse medical staff, and the public.
    • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
    • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
    • Ability to operate computer and multi-function printer, general office and telephone equipment.
    • Core Competencies: Patient Assessment, Clinical Procedure with Scope of Service.
    • Knowledge of commonly used computer software and excellent communication skills .

    Required Experience

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
    • Current Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Licensure for the State of Tennessee.
    • Current provider in Basic Life Support (BLS).
    • Must be a registered nurse in the State of Tennessee and be board certified/board eligible to practice as a Certified Nurse.
    • Eligible for a certificate of fitness to prescribe medication in the State of Tennessee, if applicable.
    • At least 1 year of experience providing care to a family medicine patient population is preferred
    • The knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate for an outpatient family medicine patient population.
    • Knowledge of Medical Spanish is preferred, but not required.

    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Manual dexterity
    • Visual and auditory acuity
    • Able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time
    • Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks
    • Able to work outdoors in varying temperatures
