    Job Title: TVC Long-Term Substitute Faculty – Middle School with Math Focus - Independent School

    Classification: Temporary, Part-Time or Full-Time, Exempt (depending on assignment)

    Program: Classroom Education – Mountain Academy

    Location: Teton Valley Campus, Victor, Idaho

    Reports To: Head of School

    Assignment Duration: August through Thanksgiving Break, School Year 2026/2027

    Work Schedule: Approximately aligned with the Mountain Academy school calendar

    Position Summary

    The Long-Term Substitute Faculty – Middle School Math is part of a team of three faculty with overall responsibility for the middle school program which serves 28 students, grades 6-8. This position provides instructional and program coverage during a faculty maternity leave. This position is primarily responsible for planning and implementing engaging and effective mathematics instruction for middle school students. Additional responsibilities include support for morning meetings, advisory, recess and lunch times, and project lab class. Experience and qualifications for attending a 2-night fall overnight backpacking trip is preferred.

    The faculty member will teach four sections of middle school math, which may include grade-level math, advanced math, and Algebra I. Instruction should align with Mountain Academy’s philosophy of Place-Based Education (PBE) and experiential learning.

    As a member of the Mountain Academy faculty, the long-term substitute will support the academic and social development of students while contributing positively to the collaborative culture of the school. Faculty inspire curiosity, foster critical thinking, and build community within the classroom and broader school environment.

    Qualifications

    Preferred qualifications include:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field
    • Experience teaching middle school mathematics or related subjects
    • Experience teaching Algebra I and differentiated math instruction preferred
    • CPR, First Aid & WFR
    • Ability to effectively plan and implement instruction across multiple math levels
    • Strong classroom management and student engagement skills
    • Ability to collaborate with faculty, administration, and families
    • Familiarity with experiential or place-based education approaches preferred
    • Proficiency with Google Workspace and classroom technology tools
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills

    Responsibilities

    Curriculum & Instruction

    • Plan and deliver engaging daily instruction for 3-4 sections of middle school math
    • Teach mathematics to grades 6–8, including grade-level, advanced, and Algebra I coursework
    • Develop lesson plans aligned with curriculum goals and learning standards
    • Assess student learning and provide timely feedback to support growth
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
    • Maintain an organized and supportive classroom environment that fosters curiosity and academic confidence
    • Communicate with students and families regarding coursework, expectations, and student progress

    Mountain Academy Faculty Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with middle school faculty on curriculum alignment and student support
    • Participate in faculty meetings and team collaboration as appropriate during the assignment period
    • Support school culture and community through positive engagement with students and colleagues
    • Maintain classroom organization, learning materials, and student records

    Teton Science Schools Responsibilities

    • Support the implementation of Place-Based Education practices within classroom instruction when appropriate
    • Contribute to an inclusive learning environment that values diversity, belonging, and community engagement
    • Uphold the mission and values of Teton Science Schools and Mountain Academy

    Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand and move throughout the classroom for extended periods
    • Ability to occasionally lift classroom materials or equipment (up to approximately 25–30 pounds)
    • Ability to participate in occasional outdoor learning activities in varying weather conditions
    • Occasional evening or school-related events may occur during the assignment period
