    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Vice President of Human Resources creates and executes the people strategy for both Knott’s Berry Farm and California’s Great America including leadership in the specific functions of Human Resources to include employment and recruiting, training, legal compliance, HRIS, employee relations, records and policies, and associate activities.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED):

    • Strategically evaluate people needs and articulate plans, resources and processes to properly implement these strategies to ensure engagement, experience and culture is world class, from application to onboarding, training and employment experiences.
    • Design & lead effective strategy to attract, recruit and retain top talent aligned with workforce planning for both properties. Align team to this strategy & ensure the planful and purposeful actions to meet the unique business needs.
    • Align recruitment efforts surrounding seasonal, full-time, part-time, and ensure university internship and contingent/supplemental efforts are supported.
    • Works in partnership with Business Partners across the parks, as well as at Cedar Fair Corporate Headquarters and other sister parks to implement standardized practices and policies, ensure effectiveness and efficiencies, leverage technology and increase employee engagement, recognition and retention.
    • Guide, mentor and supervise Recruiting, Human Resources and Training Teams to include assigning, reviewing and planning and prioritizing work projects. Maintain standards; coordinate activities; allocate teams.
    • Evaluate performance of team, reviewing work for completeness and value to business needs. Execute performance management and recognition in accordance with policy.
    • Oversee talent assessment, talent management, training and overall succession planning initiatives across Knott’s Berry Farm and California’s Great America. Ensure processes are in place and upheld consistently and year-round to meet growing business needs.
    • Guide Training Manager and team to ensure the execution of leader and technical development and training to retain top talent and enhance the current and future talent pipeline.
    • Evaluate and build a culture of compliance across Knott’s Berry Farm and California’s Great America. Leverage technology and create processes to support streamlined functions and ensure consistent execution of policies, procedures and employment processes that align with local, state and federal laws. Manage annual budgets and expenditures to efficiently meet business needs.
    • Build a culture of events, engagement and decisions that elevate our Cornerstones for associates. Ensure all associates are provided an environment to be productive and successful.
    • Lead with a servant leadership style, creating a trusting, empowering culture through providing vision, strategy, unique recognition for all employment groups, with positive engagement and clarity to all employees throughout the year.
    • Guide employee relations issues with leadership team, providing consult of employee relations, and leave of absence administration with the HR Generalist team. Ensure policies, practices and all decision making uphold local, state and federal employment laws.
    • Manage change.

    . SCOPE & IMPACT:

    Directly responsible for managing all aspects of the Human Resources function within the Knott’s Berry Farm and California’s Great America amusement park, hotel operations and restaurants. Lead 4 direct reports and approximately 70 full-time, part- time and seasonal employees. Responsible for oversight of budget of approximately $ million dollars per year.

    MINIMIUM REQUIREMENTS:  The successful candidate should possess a broad and diversified human resources background in a national/regional retail, hospitality or other services-driven organization of substantial size with multiple locations.  Prior experience should encompass Human Resources programs, policies and systems with a focus on volume recruitment and large hourly and part-time work forces.  The ideal candidate will have experience leading a lean and highly tactical human resources department with a strong field operations orientation.  At least ten years of human resource management experience required, with Recruiting, HRIS, talent management, and/or business administration experience highly preferred  Strong working knowledge of employment wage and hour laws, as well as benefit and compliance requirements.  Analytic, data-driven mindset with ability to balance the “big picture” direction with high degree of focus on the day-to-day responsibilities and deliverables and how they impact the business.  Understanding of HR management information systems capabilities and limitations, best practices, and integration into HR tasks.  Ability to establish credibility with employees at all levels of the organization, providing senior leadership with insight on the pulse of the employee population.  High level of self-motivation, energetic management style with natural ability to anticipate roadblocks to success.  A focused commitment to continuous improvement and development of strong teams.  Demonstrated ability to analyze recruitment data and present relevant information to key stakeholders  Effective strategic planner; technically and analytically proficient.  Unquestionable integrity and high ethical standards.  All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: -criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.  Travel required: approximately 35% - travel to other parks/corporate offices
