    Framatome Inc. has been serving the U.S. nuclear energy industry since the 1950’s and has approximately 2,300 employees working from locations across North America!  In the Fuel Design team, it is our passion and commitment to design and deliver the most competitive, safe, and reliable fuel solutions for the worldwide nuclear industry.  We are responsible for the design and implementation of fuel assembly designs (including our robust HTP fuel, and our newest products ATRIUM-11 and GAIA), development and implementation of advanced codes and methods, and development of accident tolerant fuel and advanced fuel management products.

    The Framatome Fuel Design group is currently seeking a PWR Fuel Design Engineer at our Lynchburg, Virginia location.  This is an engineering position on the PWR Fuel Mechanical Product Development Team, which maintains the bill of materials and associated technical design definition documents for PWR Fuel, manages design changes with competence of design bases, interfaces with and supports external suppliers, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines, and performs basic mechanical design analyses.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 

    • Develop product technical definition documents such as specifications & drawings for nuclear fuel components
    • Perform design changes with strict adherence to design control procedures
    • Creation of Parts List/Bill of Materials for product manufacturing, and management of component usability status
    • Develop solid models and draft technical design drawings using 3D drafting software Creo (Pro-E)
    • Interface with company-owned and external suppliers to develop a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and qualifications
    • Assess and process component non-conformances
    • Interface with different company locations/personnel, customer contacts, and licensing entities
    • Maintain competence of the design basis of components
    • Perform mechanical interface evaluation and design analysis for fuel entry into operating fleet
    • Develop technical evaluations to fulfill compliance to design requirements
    • Other similar activities or special projects as assigned by management

     

    ALL CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY.  CANDIDATES WHO EXCEED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS MAY BE CONSIDERED FOR A HIGHER LEVEL POSITION.

    • ENGINEER II: Minimum 2-3 years of experience with BSME or related degree required. An advanced degree may be substituted for experience (MS 1-2 years or PhD 1-3 years)
    • ENGINEER III: Minimum 3-5 years of experience with BSME or related degree required. An advanced degree may be substituted for experience (MS 1-2 years or PhD 1-3 years)

     

    THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS ARE DESIRED AND WILL BE USED TO DIFFERENTIATE ALL CANDIDATES WHO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION.

    •  Technical drawings & product specifications
    • Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), ASME Y14.5 and ISO 1101 background
    • CAD operating systems, e.g. Creo (Pro-E), CATIA, Solidworks, etc.
    • Design development, design change, design compatibility, and design evaluation
    • Bills of Material/Parts List
    • Raw Material/Component manufacturing and qualification processes
    • Design requirements & compliance evaluations
    • Commercial Grade Dedication
    • French/German language skills
    • Engineering experience in the nuclear industry and familiarity with required engineering quality and controls in this industry
    • Positive and effective team interaction skills, along with a positive peer relationship skills
    • Leadership skills and initiative in meeting customer requirements
    • Excellent communication skills (oral / presentation / written), and the ability to effectively communicate and coordinate activities among the diverse groups within the company and with customers

    REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

    • Working knowledge of Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems.
    • Knowledge of varied types of motors and their operation.
    • Knowledge of the common reasons for mechanical failure and the steps necessary to correct malfunctioning.
    • Knowledge of the diagnostic and repair tools and equipment used in dissembling, repairing and installing mechanical equipment.
    • Ability to analyze mechanical problems, organize assigned  maintenance and repair work, and develop effective work methods.
    • Ability to rebuild and install new and/or rebuilt assemblies in equipment.
    • Ability to weld broken parts, burn and fabricate.
    • Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, using diagram schematics and parts manual.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Possesses a sense of urgency and ownership.
    • Must possess an even temperament to work under pressure to prevent costly delays in production that can result from machinery breakdown.
    • Excellent follow-up skills with the ability to complete assignments/projects through to completion.
    • Ability to respond with flexibility and efficiency to frequent changes in task focus, competing priorities, and multiple deadlines.
    • Ability to meet physical demands and skills analysis of the job.
