TECHNICAL SERVICE ENGINEER
The Technical Service Engineer is responsible for providing technical knowledge and support for all Orientated Polypropylene Film (OPP) product conversions and final applications. These activities will include assistance in film specification (fit-for-use) determination, assist with any film or converting issues and maintaining customer and supplier relationships.
This individual will report to the Quality Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support all OPP film production lines with technical expertise relating to flexible web converting and end use applications.
- Provide hands-on support to identify, develop and implement quality processes and system improvements to increase continuity.
- Management of projects relating to quality or customer communication as assigned (including visits to customers and hosting customer visits).
- Coordinates analytical testing to support claimant investigations including retrieval of samples, entering job requests, and data exploration/analysis.
- Audit and measure product performance against standards or process requirements as defined.
- Advise, execute, and monitor preventative and corrective actions to ensure that quality standards are attained.
- Assist in the operation, analyzation, and reporting on product trials and validations in the field.
- Investigates root causes and recommends and helps implement corrective actions.
- Take lead on customer claim investigations, claim tracking and supporting of Sales and Customer Services teams with imported films.
- Be point of contact with global Ti manufacturing groups and Technical groups to resolve film or quality concerns.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or Polymer Science
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with flexible webs or polymers, preferentially in a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge in some or all the following flexible web converting fields: flexographic, rotogravure, and /or lithographic printing; adhesive and /or extrusion lamination, labeling for roll-fed bottle labels, and food packaging (VFFS, HFFS, etc...)
- Cold seal converting and application knowledge preferred
- Practical and/or theoretical understanding of winding of flexible material preferred
- Background in quality management systems or GFSI benchmarked standards a plus
- Strong organization skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to interact with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as customers and supplier
- Travel required (25-50%)
- Proficient in Microsoft applications with strong emphasis on Excel is preferred
- Technical writing skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent project management skills
- Meticulous attention to detail
