    Job Summary

    The Chief Engineer of Transparencies manages the overall engineering activities within aerospace transparencies development programs, to meet overall program and business objectives. As Chief Engineer, you will report hierarchically and functionally to the Head of Product Engineering and operationally to the Program Manager(s).

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Managing Development Activities in the (pre-) Conceptual Phase and Full-scale Development Phase (up to Life Cycle Gate 7) of the Program to achieve world class Technical Solutions meeting Program Objectives (Weight, RC, NRC).

    • Achieving and ensuring (continued) Airworthiness of the Product Design in accordance with applicable Certification Specifications.

    • Acting as primary Focal Point for the External Customer for (major) Technical Issues.

    • Setting up and maintaining the Engineering Project Plan/Schedule.

    • Delivery of the Engineering Deliverables meeting the applicable Technical Requirements (including Manufacturability, Certification / Qualification Requirements) against agreed Schedule and Cost Objectives. Implementation and Execution of Cost & Schedule Control: NRC Planning, Tracking / Control and Reporting

    • Support Program Management in the Execution of Program Risk Management by identifying (technical) Risks and determining associated Mitigation Actions

    • Providing day-to-day Operational Management to the Engineering Management Team (Engineering Team Lead(s) and/or Technical Project Leads and/or Engineers).

    • Organizing Engineering Design Reviews (a.o. PDR and CDR) as defined in the Life Cycle Management Process Standard and as required by the Customer, including adequate Follow-up

    • Providing effective Communication within the (Program) Team and with Stakeholders outside the Team. Provide operational Support for Construction and Installation of Prototype and Pre-Production Products, both internally and at the Customer (or Supplier).

    • Acting as Link to Business Development / Commercial to support Generation of new Business Opportunities

    Functional Support:

    • Must possess a high level of aerospace transparency related engineering functional knowledge and experience across multiple disciplines

    • Must possess a high level of business expertise especially in the Aerospace industry and in the Transparencies product area, to successfully support programs.

    • Must possess the highest level of technical project leadership, as the role is accountable for the competing parameters of technical quality (Safety/Airworthiness) as well as project schedule and cost adherence for the technical activities.

    • Must possess the highest level of problem solving skills in both technical and programme management disciplines to successfully manage the technical direction of the project and support the overall business objectives of the programme.

    • The role directly affects the non-recurring cost of the technical activities and the recurring price and cost to support of a resulting product.

    Job Qualifications:

    • Bachelor in Engineering or equivalent working and thinking Level gained through experience.

    • 10 years of relevant experience gained within a multi-disciplinary aerospace engineering environment. 5 years of relevant experience gained in an aerospace transparencies engineering environment.

    • US Citizenship per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance and site SSA requirements

    • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with managing (complex) engineering projects or having acted as engineering / functional team leader; has led teams (delivery through people without direct hierarchical authority).

    • Previously held (internal) technical approval authority (i.e. is recognized as having appropriate technical seniority for Design, or Analysis).

    • Experience in dealing with related functions (Operations/Production, Sales/Customer Relationship Management, Supplier Management and Development).

    • Management of complex Projects; ability to rationalize, assess and evaluate information that may not always be clear or mature.

    • Project management, planning and organizing skills based on recognized project management methods. Strong business and commercial Savviness. Sees new Opportunities to win (new) Business and also to reduce or avoid costs.

    • Solid approach/understanding to the delivery and tracking of engineering tasks.

    • Able to define challenging objectives and achieve them.

    • Relationship building at Levels up to and including senior management level.

    • Has excellent judgement in considering when escalation is appropriate.

    • Strong minded, convincing and committed, focused on delivery, must be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

    • Ability to clearly present data, reports and presentations to facilitate the decision making process at all levels of the business.

    • Active US government security clearance.

    • Relevant experience in Electrical or conductivity awareness, Wire grid heater types, Design and manufacturing of Acrylic, glass, or polycarbonate materials, Transparency coatings, Electric heaters, sealants, adhesives, Structural background or involved with primary structure and qualification testing, Optics, Assembly interfaces and seals, and/or RF shielding

    • Having worked in multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary teams in an international setting.

    • Experience with developing and coaching people.

    • Ability to mentor and coach Engineers in the Delivery of their specific Task and supporting their professional Growth.
