  • Responsibilities

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION/PRIMARY PURPOSE

     

    Responsible for managing the Transportation and Logistics operations for the Central division of Dole Fresh Fruit, work with third party trucking companies to ensure shipments are handled accurately and timely to comply with customer requirements.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION

    • Manage and oversee time sensitive deliveries to Dole customers for both the Central and Canada.
    • Forecast future demand of available trucks for customers to meet service level needs in a volatile industry.
    • Coordinate with sales and production teams to determine transportation needs from week to week.
    • Support and coordinate between Dole port operations and truckers to maximize shipping efficiencies for our day-to-day operation.
    • Manage carrier’s accounts receivables to achieve minimal days outstanding on payments and comply with company’s policies.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with trucking companies to facilitate on time deliveries to customers.
    • Analyze and implement cost savings for each lane to increase Dole margins for delivered freight.
    • Prepare and control the area’s budget, based on freight rates, fuel prices, truck availability to ensure efficient and effective use of resources and meet company’s objectives
    • Identify and implement new opportunities to maintain our current carrier base and increase our delivered percentage. Identify synergies within other divisions of Dole and outside partners.
    • Perform other duties as needed

     

    JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS)

    • Complete understanding of Dole business standards.
    • Complete understanding of the transportation and 3PL industry.
    • Both container and warehouse operational knowledge.
    • Strong communication and personal skills relating to customer service needs.
    • Ability to speak and connect with a range of levels within trucking organization: from high level management to truck drivers
    • Advanced proficiency with MS Office platforms, Power point, Excel, word systems.
    • Negotiation skill set would be advantageous.

    _EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION _

    • 5 years’ experience in transportation routing, negotiating, and customer relations
    • A degree in business and logistics is preferred

     

    EMPLOYEE MANAGEMENT

    • This position is responsible for supervising the work of one Transportation Administrator.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • _ _Ability to occasionally lift 40 pound boxes.
