  • Responsibilities

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

    Under the direction of the General Manager, manages the division’s computer based accounting systems in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and standards, corporate policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. Ensures the proper accounting for all Dole Hawaii assets, liabilities and transactions.   

     

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION

     

    • Responsible for the maintenance of Dole Hawaii’s general ledger and subsidiary systems including property and equipment, accounts receivable and payables, etc. in accordance with professional accounting standards and corporate policies and procedures.
    • Formulates and administers standard accounting practices to assure that the division’s books of original entry accurately reflect the financial condition of the business and provide useful information necessary for dynamic management control of operations.
    • Prepares standard accounting statements and reports on a periodic and annual basis, or as requested, including FALCON reporting package, federal and state tax reports, insurable values,  physical inventories, reconciliation of inter-company charges, age of receivables and payables, etc.
    • Prepares projections required in the financial planning program such as balance sheet, cash flow, working capital and other related forecasts on prescribed frequencies of weekly, periodic and annual basis.
    • Clearly communicates accounting “numbers” in a usable format accompanied by a narrative explanation of their relevance and significance to division management.
    • Extends full cooperation to internal and external auditors during their examination of accounting records, standard practices and policy compliance.
    • Ensures integration of computer software systems interface that provides adequate audit trails and proper documentation of user procedures.
    • Communicates definitive status of projects utilizing sound project management techniques and effective written and verbal medias. Maintains commitment and expenditure control against authorized capital and developmental objects while in progress.  Issues timely project status reports to respective managers.
    • Administers the corporate records retention program for accounting and related records on a time cycle basis.
    • Responsible for developing and submitting annual division budget reporting.
    • Performs special studies as assigned on an individual basis or as a team member of a task force. Must be able to readily grasp business problems, formulate concepts into a framework of analysis and carry through to completing within a prescribed timeframe. Communicates interim progress reports and final studies in a organized format for written and/or verbal presentation to division management.
    • Performs duties of the position within the standards of the ethical conduct promulgated by the NAA (National Association of Accountants) including competence, confidentiality, integrity and objectivity.
    • Ensure the maintenance of safe and healthful working conditions for employees in accordance with company policies and programs and federal/state regulations. Enforces safety rules and regulations and participates in Dole’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program to eliminate accidents.
    • Performs special projects as assigned.

     

    JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITY, EXPERIENCE)

    REQUIRED Minimum five years accounting experience including auditing. Must possess excellent computer skills and knowledge of state-of–art computer hardware and software applications in business information processing.

    PREFERRED Ability to work as a team member.  Possess excellent communication skills.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with major in accounting.
    • 5 years accounting experience including auditing.
    • CPA certification preferred.

    • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
