Senior Tandem (HP NonStop) COBOL Programmer Analyst
Uses technical skills and programming experience to define, schedule, and coordinate the programming of solutions to problems and requests of varying difficulty under the general direction of management. Responsible for leading an assigned team of developers on assigned projects/implementations. Coordinates the work of development team members and others in Client Programming with those who have requested projects.
- Provides designs for proposed systems and system enhancements. Develops modifications and changes to existing programs and procedures as needed to satisfy user requests.
- Supplements coding, testing, and documenting computer programs when necessary to achieve results and meet schedules.
- Leads and mentors team members on assigned projects and implementations.
- Ensures that programs and procedures developed by the team adhere to established departmental standards and guidelines. Assists CIS in keeping commitments to clients by ensuring on-time completion of projects.
- Develops project cost estimates for assigned clients.
- Reports progress through updates to the project control system status, time recording, and attendance at weekly project control meetings.
- Notifies the manager immediately when it appears that schedule dates will not be met or if an assigned project may cause operational or support difficulties.
- Suggests potential improvements to the processes and techniques used by Client Programming that will improve quality and responsiveness for clients.
- Interacts with project requestors to ensure a clear understanding and business validity of user requests, and demonstrates results to project requestors.
- Advises less experienced programmers and provides training by sharing technical knowledge.
- Solves balancing problems.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to write and explain structured and maintainable COBOL code.
- Proficiency with all Tandem utility programs.
- Ability to modify and create SCOBOL online programs as required.
- Ability to develop complex online and batch programs.
- Ability to design operations that are reliable and efficient.
MINIMUM LEVEL OF PREPARATION AND TRAINING NORMALLY REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 5 years of COBOL programming experience.
- 5 years of progressively complex project development experience.
