    THIS IS A LONG-TERM, YEAR-ROUND POSITION WITH REQUIRED DAYTIME HOURS. If you are a student looking for seasonal work, we have hired to full capacity for the summer and are no longer accepting resumes or applications. Please check back in late August about part-time Culinary Assistant openings if you have weekend and limited weeknight availability during the school year.

This is an excellent entry-level position with opportunity for growth into a full-time role for the right candidate.

    We are looking for an uber organized, dependable and efficient Culinary Operations Assistant to support the needs of our busy recreational cooking school by ensuring the magic happens - both behind the scenes and client-facing. In this role, you will ensure our kitchen is always stocked, organized, clean and working to be event ready at all times, and regularly support our Culinary Instructors by assisting cooking classes.

    No experience is necessary, but the ideal candidate would have:

    The ability to follow directions in a fast-paced environment

    Able to manage your time effectively to get the job done quickly yet thoroughly

    A natural curiosity and passion for food & culinary entertainment

    An upbeat personality with a smile on your face and a willingness to get your hands dirty

    Great communication skills with all ages

    Confidence with or a desire to learn a range of cooking and baking techniques

    Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift 45 pounds

    Must have consistent access to a reliable vehicle for use in grocery shopping

    Savvy grocery shopper with working knowledge of a wide variety of food items, able to quickly and efficiently navigate through major grocery/wholesale chains as well as specialty stores

    Passionate about spending management and the ability to keep our kitchen costs low and routine

    Proficient in Google Sheets

    1+ years experience working in a kitchen environment or similar preferred but willing the train the right candidate

    Must pass a background check

    Self-starter who wants to be a part of a great team

    Open availability in the evenings and on the weekends

    Responsibilities:

    Ensure our kitchen is stocked, organized, clean, and working at all times

    Create a weekly shopping list and source ingredients/supplies via food service order and local grocers, ensuring the best price and reduced waste

    Follow food safety protocols for stocking, receiving and organizing all food and event supplies

    Ensure all cooking tools/equipment are in good working order

    Maintain our facility, keeping our kitchen an incredibly clean and hygienic environment

    Proactively plan out and tackle a weekly prep and pre-make schedule to prepare select food items in advance to ensure smooth day-of executions

    Tasks will include thawing/cutting proteins, making cupcakes and buttercream frosting, making and bagging royal icing and assembling gingerbread houses, prepping salad or dessert add-ons, measuring/packing for weekly classes, and more while ensuring proper food safety and food handling practices are always in place

    Serve as our lead Culinary Assistant, supporting the Instructor to create amazing cooking classes, camps, and parties for ages 2-99

    Create a friendly, energetic, and consistent experience for our guests

    Setup before class including preparing ingredients, activities, and pre-bake as needed for a class

    Keep the kitchen running smoothly and sparkling clean before, during, and after the class

    Create a controlled safe, clean, friendly environment for all clients

    Growth opportunity to lead and teach a set weekly schedule of off-site kids cooking classes in partner locations like schools, community centers and park districts during the school year (Sept-May)

    Growth opportunity to help in onboard, train, and mentor new Assistant staff

    Schedule & Availability This year-round position is offered as part-time role of 15-20 daytime hours per week prepping for classes and events, running lite shopping errands, receiving our food service order, and maintaining our clean and organized kitchen. If interested, additional hours would include limited evenings and one weekend day to assist during classes for a total schedule of 4-5 days per week, approximately 20-30 hours per week.
