    Job Description:

    We are looking for an uber organized, dependable and efficient Culinary Operations Assistant to support the needs of our busy recreational cooking school by ensuring the magic happens - both behind the scenes and client-facing. From managing kitchen operations to ensure we're always stocked, organized, clean and working to be event ready at all times; to assisting and leading select classes, as well as training and mentoring our team of Assistants, you will have a passion for making our guests smile and keeping everything running smoothly in our sparkling clean kitchen.

    Responsibilities:

    Serve as our lead Culinary Assistant, supporting the Instructor to create amazing cooking classes, camps, and parties for ages 2-99

    Lead and teach a set weekly schedule of off-site kids cooking classes in partner locations like schools, community centers and park districts during the school year (Sept-May)

    Create a friendly, energetic, and consistent experience for our guests

    Setup before class including preparing ingredients, activities, and prebake as needed for a class

    Keep the kitchen running smoothly, sparkling clean, stocked, and organized before, during, and after the class

    Create a controlled safe, clean, friendly environment for all clients

    Help in onboarding, training, and mentoring new staff

    Outside of classes, ensure our kitchen is stocked, organized, clean, and working at all times

    This includes sourcing and shopping for ingredients/supplies using inventory metrics to ensure the best price and reduced waste, keeping our cooking tools/equipment in good working order organization, maintaining our facility, and keeping our kitchen an incredibly clean and hygienic environment

    Proactively plan out and tackle a weekly prep and pre-make schedule to prepare select food items in advance to ensure smooth day-of executions

    Tasks will include thawing/cutting proteins, making cupcakes and buttercream frosting, making and bagging royal icing and assembling gingerbread houses, prepping salad or dessert add-ons, kit packing, measuring/packing for weekly classes, and more while ensuring proper food safety and food handling practices are always in place

    Qualifications:

    Ability to follow directions in a fast-paced environment and move quickly

    Natural curiosity and passion for food & culinary entertainment

    Upbeat personality with a smile on your face a majority of the time

    Eagerness to get your hands dirty

    Great communication skills with all ages

    Confident with a range of cooking and baking techniques

    At least one or more years of experience entertaining kids and/or adults

    Formal teaching experience and training in education, childhood development or related field a plus

    Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift 45 pounds

    Must have consistent access to a reliable vehicle for use in grocery shopping and traveling to off-site classes

    Must pass a background check

    1+ years experience working in a kitchen environment or similar

    Savvy grocery shopper with working knowledge of a wide variety of food items, able to quickly and efficiently navigate through major grocery/wholesale chains as well as specialty stores

    Passionate about spending management and the ability to keep our kitchen costs low and routine

    Organized and efficient, able to manage their time effectively to get the job done quickly yet thoroughly, proficient in Google Sheets

    Self-starter who wants to be a part of a great team

    Feels ownership over their job, ready to keep our kitchen running at top-notch at all times

    Availability:Open availability is required, including nights and weekends, as we host events 7-days a week. The schedule for this position includes set in-kitchen hours during the week for tasks associated with maintaining our event ready kitchen and instructing off-site classes. Additional hours include evenings and weekends assisting events and/or training the team. You will be guaranteed at least one full day off per week with a consistent goal of two days off in non-peak seasons.
