****Job Title: Tax Associate
Pay Range: $45,000 to $58,000 / year
Reports to: John Kirkland
Position overview: Our Tax Associate position plays a pivotal role in fulfilling our mission by:**
1. Helping our clients gather all of the documents and provide feedback on anything received or missing.
2. Prepare quality, compliant business and individual tax returns that minimize tax liabilities for our clients.
3. Collaborate with your team about tax preparation strategies and work effeciently to meet required due dates and deadlines.
Here's what you'll be doing on a typical day.
- Preparing individual, partnership and S corporation tax returns
- Preparing quarterly and year-end tax estimates
- Communicating directly with clients on the status of their tax returns
- Requesting information from clients punctually and with clarity
- Adhering to production requirements such as completing a required number of returns, working with time constraints and meeting client deadlines
- Hitting required deadlines, including strict tax deadlines and working occasional nights and/or weekends leading up to major deadlines
- Drafting responses to tax notices clients receive and guiding them through their question.
- Assisting with IRS tax matters (depending on your experience level) including calling the IRS to resolve certain matters
- Working with multiple computer programs such as Microsoft Word & Excel, Axcess Tax, ProSystem Fixed Assets, KarbonHQ, TValue, Xero, QuickBooks Desktop & Online, and Teams
Preferred technical skills
- Business return knowledge: Have an in-depth understanding of the preparation, filing, and compliance of business tax returns (1065s, 1120S, disregarded entities), tailored to various business structures and applicable laws, ensuring accuracy and optimization of tax obligations.
- Tax strategy: Can design and implement comprehensive plans that align with tax laws and regulations, optimizing a client's tax position and minimizing liabilities.
- Project & work management: Understand the importance of project management, be able to keep track of work assigned to others and work promised to clients by a certain date. Be able to utilize a cloud based project management system to keep track of and monitor work being performed.
- Accounting methods: Understand the difference between cash basis, modified accrual and full accrual accounting. Have a deep understanding of how transaction timing impacts this, how transactions should be recorded and any potential tax implications.

Past work experience
Minimum of 1 year of tax preparation experience.
Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, taxation or accounting is preferred but not mandatory.
Travel: Minimal travel will be required for this position.
Location & schedule:
Our team builds trust with each other by openly communicating about work schedules. Specifics include:
- Hybrid position:
- 3 days in the office, with Wednesdays being a required day. Working hours 9AM-5PM.
- 2 days work from home (or the office, if you desire). Working hours flexible.
