Position Overview
The Tax Accountant I assists in preparing a variety of federal and state tax returns for clients across multiple industries. This role works closely with managers, supervisors, and partners to develop technical tax knowledge, build client relationships, and support tax planning and consulting engagements.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, eager to learn, and committed to providing exceptional client service.
Core Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Compliance
• Prepare federal and state tax returns, including Forms 1120, 1120S, 1065, 1041 and 1040 • Prepare Forms 990 for nonprofit organizations and Texas Franchise Tax Reports • Assist with tax planning, research, and consulting projects • Gather, organize, and analyze client financial information necessary for tax engagements • Identify and understand firm policies, procedures, and tax compliance standards • Review work for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to deadlines • Maintain organized workpapers and supporting documentation
Client Service & Communication
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients and team members • Communicate professionally with clients regarding information requests and engagement needs • Collaborate with managers, supervisors, and partners to ensure quality client service • Participate in client meetings and discussions as experience and assignments allow
Technology & Professional Development
• Utilize firm technology and tax software to complete assignments efficiently and accurately • Maintain working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and related software applications • Continuously develop technical tax knowledge and professional skills • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors, managers, or partners
Qualifications
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field • Completion of at least 30 hours of college-level accounting coursework • CPA eligible and actively pursuing CPA licensure preferred
Experience
• One to three years of experience preparing business and individual tax returns in a public accounting environment preferred
Skills & Abilities
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Positive attitude and willingness to learn • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and accounting-related software
