First Trinity Academy is seeking an experienced Tax Preparer / Accountant (1099) to handle annual business and nonprofit tax filings. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who can work independently, communicate clearly, and meet statutory tax deadlines. Work is performed remotely; however, the contractor must be local to the Leesburg, FL area and available to meet in person once per month.
Job Summary
We are seeking a talented Bookkeeper to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with the Accounting department to maintain accurate financial records and ensure the company’s compliance with all legal requirements. Your responsibilities will include recording and verifying transactions, bringing the books to the trial balance stage, and completing tax forms. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and has a strong understanding of best practices in accounting.
Responsibilities
Prepare and file annual business tax returns (Form 1120 or similar)
Prepare and file nonprofit tax returns (Form 990 or similar)
Review client-provided financials and documentation for completeness
Request additional information as needed to ensure accurate filings
Provide draft returns for review prior to e-file submission
Submit all returns electronically and confirm receipt from the IRS and state
Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all data security requirements
Communicate clearly and promptly with the school administrator
Meet all agreed-upon deadlines
Attend one monthly in-person meeting in Leesburg, FL, to review progress and documents
Requirements
Must be based in or near Leesburg, Florida (for monthly on-site meetings)
Minimum 3+ years of experience preparing business and/or nonprofit tax returns
Experience with corporate and nonprofit tax regulations
Strong understanding of IRS guidelines and deadlines
Valid PTIN required
CPA or Enrolled Agent preferred, but not required
Must carry professional liability insurance
Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (accountant access)
Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and organizational abilities
Ability to work independently as a 1099 contractor
Reliable internet and secure methods for document handling
