Job Summary
The Tax Preparer is responsible for preparing accurate tax returns for individuals and small businesses, delivering exceptional customer service, and staying informed about current tax regulations. This role plays a vital part in supporting clients' financial success and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation
- Prepare accurate individual and small business tax returns.
- Review financial records to determine necessary forms and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
Customer Service
- Provide outstanding service by addressing client questions and concerns.
- Conduct interviews to gather information and explain tax outcomes, offering planning advice as needed.
Compliance and Accuracy
- Stay current on tax laws and regulations through training and education.
- Verify accuracy of data in tax software and ensure compliance with all relevant laws.
Documentation and Recordkeeping
- Maintain organized records of client interactions and tax returns.
- File documents securely and ensure all required client information is obtained.
Training and Development
- Participate in training sessions to stay updated on tax laws and software.
Collaboration
- Work with colleagues to ensure smooth office operations.
- Mentor junior staff as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Must have or be eligible to obtain an IRS Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).
Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1–3 years of experience in tax preparation.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily desk-based with occasional overtime or weekend work during tax season.
Work Environment
