  • Responsibilities

    Position Summary
    The Tax Senior will be responsible for preparing and reviewing tax returns and supporting tax planning engagements for financial services clients, including banks, broker-dealers, investment advisors, private funds, and insurance companies. This role requires strong technical tax knowledge, the ability to manage multiple engagements, and the ability to review and mentor staff-level associates.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for financial services clients, including corporations, partnerships, and pass-through entities
    • Support tax compliance and planning engagements for banks, asset managers, private funds, broker-dealers, and insurance companies
    • Prepare and review partnership allocations, including waterfall calculations and capital account maintenance for private fund clients, if applicable
    • Research and document technical tax issues specific to the financial services industry, preparing memoranda and supporting documentation
    • Assist with tax provision preparation and review (ASC 740) for financial services clients
    • Coordinate with clients to gather information necessary for tax return preparation and respond to client inquiries
    • Review the work of Tax Staff, providing coaching, technical guidance, and feedback
    • Identify tax planning opportunities and technical issues, communicating findings to managers and clients
    • Assist with responses to IRS and state tax notices and audits
    • Monitor changes in tax law affecting financial services clients and assess potential impact on client engagements
    • Manage time and priorities across multiple client engagements to meet deadlines
    • Support business development efforts by identifying additional service opportunities for existing clients

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required; Master's in Taxation a plus
    • CPA or actively pursuing CPA required
    • 2-4+ years of progressive tax experience, ideally with exposure to financial services clients within public accounting
    • Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax compliance for corporations, partnerships, and pass-through entities
    • Exposure to partnership taxation, including allocations and capital accounts, preferred
    • Familiarity with tax issues specific to banking, asset management, broker-dealers, private funds, or insurance a plus
    • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
    • Proficiency with tax research software (BNA, CCH, Checkpoint) and tax preparation software (GoSystem, CCH Axcess, or similar)
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously

    Preferred Attributes

    • Big 4 or national/regional public accounting firm background
    • Experience with private fund taxation, including hedge funds, private equity funds, or fund of funds
    • Interest in developing a specialization within the financial services tax practice
    • Strong communication skills and ability to build client relationships

    $110,000 per year
