    Job Description Taylor & Francis, a leading international academic publishing company has an exciting opportunity for a Journals Portfolio Manager. The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for the commercially effective development and launch of Open Access journals in one of the following portfolios; Life, Earth & Environmental Sciences, Physical Sciences or Behavioral Sciences.

    WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

    • Creating and delivering plans to grow, develop and maximize the profitability of Open Access journals in Life, Earth & Environmental Science; Physical Sciences; or Behavioral Sciences
    • Managing a journals portfolio to an agreed level of revenue and profitability under the direction of the Global Head of Portfolio, exceeding/meeting targets and objectives
    • Proactively managing the article pipeline to deliver against agreed service levels
    • Developing new open access propositions based on strong market research and best practice approaches
    • Developing and sharing best practice around successful open access publishing within the team
    • Fostering in-depth and long-term relationships with current and potential publishing partners in order to maintain and protect current portfolio and create opportunities for further acquisitions
    • Proactively commissioning content, building network of contacts and working with the Editorial team to build and deliver on commissioning plans to drive articles, special issues and commissioned content to your journals
    • Maintaining a strong external focus i.e. attending conferences, editorial board meetings etc. creating profile and relevant networks to increase subject and customer knowledge and understanding
    • Building, maintaining and sharing thorough knowledge of market need and competitor activity to inform decisions on new journals and existing journal development

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 3 years proven experience of managing an Open Access portfolio of journals to meet business growth objectives/or equivalent
    • Strong subject matter knowledge and proven experience in developing Science and Technology Journals or Social Science journals for Behavioral Sciences position
    • Experience of working with internal departments, publishing partners and Editors-in-Chief, Associate Editors and Section Editors to effectively manage copy flow
    • Proven experience of interpreting and applying insight from data on submissions, accepts, rejects and other pipeline and financial data
    • Resilient, self-reliant, and resourceful, willing to go the extra mile; to drive customer and commercial value
    • Analytical thinking and logical response under pressure
    • Solution finding and decision making
    • Excellent communication skills, oral, presentation and written
    • Strong team working skills, ability to collaborate, work with others, share knowledge and best practice to drive value
    • Willingness and motivated to travel to and participate in external events and networks
