    Job Description

    We are looking to add three new Portfolio Managers across our STM team. **** The roles available are:

    • Medicine & Health (M&H): * Open Research Portfolio Manager – Reproductive Medicine * Portfolio Manager – Allied and Public Health
    • Life Earth and Environmental Sciences (LEES): * Portfolio Manager - Environmental Toxicology

    The Portfolio Manager roles:

    The Portfolio Manager for Reproductive Medicine will report directly to the Global Head of Portfolio for Clinical Medicine (in M&H) and will involve working across a range of owned and society journals across the discipline. There will be opportunities to work closely with the Open Access teams across conversions and new launches.

    The Portfolio Manager for Allied and Public Health will report directly to the Global Head of Portfolio for Allied and Public Health (in M&H) and will work on managing key society and editor relationships and implementing hybrid journal development plans focused on growth and best publishing practices.

    The Portfolio Manager for Environmental Toxicology will report directly to the Global Head of Portfolio for their subject area (in LEES), and will work on society relationship management, new launch titles and instilling healthy ethical practices across a range of hybrid and open access journals.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Creating and delivering plans to grow, develop and maximise the editorial and financial impact of a portfolio of journals within a subject cluster
    • Managing your journals’ portfolio under the direction of the Global Head of Portfolio, exceeding/meeting targets and objectives with sustainable, ethical, editorial practices
    • Pro-actively managing the article pipeline to deliver a high-quality author experience
    • Developing new open access and hybrid journal propositions based on strong market research and best practices
    • Fostering in-depth and long-term relationships with current publishing partners in order to maintain and protect the current portfolio’s business and creating opportunities for future acquisitions
    • Working with our Content Acquisition team to build networks of contacts and deliver on commissioning plans to drive article collections, special issues, and commissioned content to your portfolio
    • Maintaining a strong external focus by attending conferences, editorial board, and journal/society strategy meetings.
    • Building, a clear understanding of your portfolio’s market need and competitor activity to inform decisions on journal development and the creation of new products (i.e. Journals) and services.

    What we’re looking for:

    • Knowledge, and preferably experience, of developing journals to meet business growth objectives
    • Strong subject matter interest and experience in Scientific, Technical, and Medical publishing
    • Experience of working with internal departments, as well as external publishing partners including Editors-in-Chief, Associate Editors and Section Editors
    • A good understanding of the drivers for successful OA publishing and trends within Open Research
    • Ability to negotiate and influence others, including senior stakeholders
    • A strategic mindset and approach to your work, including the ability to make decisions that deliver the best outcomes
    • The ability to prioritise and manage your own workload and to work under pressure
    • The ability to read and interpret appropriate financial data, and financial modelling
    • Willingness and motivated to travel to and participate in external events and networks

    Additional Information

    What we offer in return:

    • Starting annual salary of between $54,000 - $70,000. Salary will be commensurate with experience and geographic location.
