    Job Description

    Taylor & Francis has an exciting opportunity for a Global Head of Portfolio to join the Journals Editorial team in Researcher Services. This role is responsible for the strategy, business planning, growth, direction and commercially effective management of a portfolio of around 150 journals that includes Sports, Planning, Urban Studies, Geography, and Law titles, together with the leadership of a team of Portfolio Managers.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Leading a team of Portfolio Managers: ensuring objectives are clear, relevant decision-making is devolved, and that the team are empowered and incentivised to take responsibility and achieve goals.
    • Mentoring and coaching this team of Portfolio Managers to enable them to find ways to improve and develop their individual portfolios.
    • Setting and implementing strategies for the growth for of the portfolio, in consultation with the Global Portfolio Director.
    • Providing oversight of Portfolio Managers’ content management strategies within the portfolio.
    • Fostering in-depth and close customer relationships with subject-specific societies to build the profile and position T&F Journals as a center of subject specialism and excellence.
    • Taking personal responsibility for the P&L management of own program of portfolios.
    • Providing oversight of timely and profitable contract renewals.
    • Building and maintaining a thorough and topical knowledge of market need and competitor activity in the portfolio’s subject areas.
    • Keeping abreast of global changes to the process of profitable publishing to ensure program remains relevant, commercially viable, and in pace with market dynamics.
    • Deputizing for the Global Portfolio Director and supporting the activities of the wider Journals Editorial team where required.
  • Qualifications

    What we are looking for:

    • Excellent people management skills, including the effective management of a hybrid-working team and supportive development of global team reports,
    • Experience of managing a profit center with a turnover of up to $30+m.,
    • In-depth subject knowledge of areas covered by the portfolio, which include Sports, Planning, Urban Studies, Geography, and Law; or comparable subject areas,
    • Experience and in-depth knowledge of working with societies,
    • Experience of the processes of acquiring, managing, and publishing content,
    • Excellent understanding of academic and library buying patterns and the factors that drive purchase of content, open access sales, and content usage,
    • Experience of managing P&L accounts,
    • Knowledge of Research Funder policies,
    • A willingness to travel to meet colleagues and clients,
    • A strong understanding of the publishing industry and market for research content generally.
