    Job Description

    We are recruiting for an Editorial Office Coordinator to work as part of a dedicated Editorial Office team within the Global Peer Review department.   

    You will deliver excellent peer review support and services for our journals, to fulfil T&F’s business objectives and to ensure that all internal and external stakeholders are highly satisfied with their experience of working with us. 

    Working within the Global Peer Review (GPR) department, the Editorial Office Coordinator's role is to manage the delivery of editorial administrative support for the peer review process, working on a list of journals across a range of academic disciplines.

    WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

    • Promoting and implementing the provision of Journal Editorial Office (JEO) support for journals, including explaining the scope of the role to Editors, and working with suppliers to ensure that journal-specific needs are recognized and are being met or exceeded
    • Monitoring the delivery of JEO support and ensuring that authors and Editors are satisfied with service levels
    • Providing technical support and advice to Editors in using online submission platforms effectively
    • Acting as an escalation point for queries from Editorial colleagues about the online systems or JEO performance matters
    • Flagging and reporting possible performance issues from suppliers to the appropriate Team Leader to be addressed; providing constructive feedback and specific examples, and suggesting improvement measures as needed
    • Engaging confidently with online submission platforms (both bespoke and trademarked), as well as working within bespoke query management and content management systems
    • Identifying the root causes of and solutions to problems arising within peer review systems and online platforms
    • Liaising with the Journals Production team to facilitate the output from online peer review systems feeding into production tracking system
    • Triaging routine and non-standard enquiries, ensuring these are directed to appropriate departments or resources for resolution
    • Trouble-shooting problems, liaising with the online systems team to resolve these
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
    • Ability to work with and harness data to inform decisions and deliver process changes
    • Confidence in working with and utilizing a suite of different technologies and systems
    • An understanding of the concept of peer review, and its importance within academic journals publishing, as well as an awareness of current and future trends within the industry
    • An interest in process management and in applying tools to continuously improve processes and service delivery
    • A strong team spirit and a collaborative mindset
    • Financial awareness and an understanding of the commercial imperatives of contemporary academic publishing

    Prior experience is not necessary as full training is provided.  However, candidates should have a clear understanding of the role and importance of peer review and ideally be comfortable in working with a range of different systems and technologies. The role also involves engaging with and supporting external suppliers globally, to deliver robust and cost-effective peer review services to our customers and stakeholders.  

    This role requires a strong sense of customer focus and commercial awareness. You should demonstrate a good understanding of current and future themes and drivers within peer review and publishing, such as Open Publication models, and you should be comfortable to work within a technically-focused and data-driven environment in which metrics and commercial imperatives take precedence.

    This role will be based remotely from home to candidates on the East Coast in order for the most overlap hours to work with colleagues in the UK and for occasional travel to our office in Philadelphia, as required.
