    Job Description

    Taylor & Francis, a leading international academic publishing company has an exciting opportunity for a candidate with journal editorial management experience. We are seeking a Portfolio Manager to join our journal Medicine & Health editorial team. The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for the commercially effective development of a portfolio of journals within Clinical Medicine. Reporting to the Global Head of Portfolio, you will develop and manage your own portfolio of journals and support best practice in publishing in Medicine & Health.

    WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

    • Creating and delivering a business plan to grow, develop and maximize the profitability of given portfolio
    • Managing portfolio P&L to an agreed level of revenue and profitability under the direction of the Global Head of Portfolio, exceeding/meeting targets and objectives
    • Fostering in-depth relationships with Editors, Editorial Boards, and societies in order to maintain and protect current portfolio and create opportunities for further acquisitions
    • Proactively identifying and networking with new contacts to position T&F Journals as a center of subject excellence and expertise and to drive new acquisitions
    • Maintaining a strong external focus e.g. attending conferences and editorial board meetings, creating profile and relevant networks in order to increase subject and customer knowledge and understanding
    • Building, maintaining and sharing a thorough knowledge of market need and competitor activity to inform decisions on product development
    • Managing transition of acquired titles and publishing existing program to agreed plan
    • Working to build understanding, engagement and compliance with T&F Journals policies and processes, both externally and internally
    • Working closely with Editors to ensure a timely and efficient peer review process for authors
    • Working closely with colleagues across the Journals business to achieve submission targets and timely publication goals
    • Working with Editors and the OA commissioning team to develop a commissioning strategy tailored to individual journals; providing commissioning support as appropriate
    • Providing information and support to authors and Editors regarding available transfer pathways
    • Acting as a product champion with internal stakeholders to ensure buy-in and support for the list across other departments
    • Commissioning and acquiring new products to an agreed level of revenue and profitability under the direction of the Head of Portfolio
    • Working effectively and collaboratively across team to share ideas, best practice and provide required support.
    • Accountable for managing own learning, taking responsibility to identify and develop skills gaps

    • Strong Medical subject matter knowledge and experience
    • Experience of working with editors and societies
    • Excellent communication skills - oral, presentation and written
