    Job Description

    Taylor & Francis Group aims to foster human progress through knowledge by supporting, validating and connecting the work of researchers and other knowledge producers.

    As a member of our global content acquisition team, the key purpose of a Commissioning Editor is to commission high-quality article submissions, delivering an ongoing pipeline of published material across a broad scope of Taylor & Francis Journals, across a range of subject areas including Science, Technology and Medicine, Social Sciences and Humanities. 

    This role will involve undertaking detailed analysis of academic fields and growth areas, understanding the breadth of research outputs in those areas and engaging with researchers to build awareness of the benefits of publishing with Taylor & Francis. You will need to build relationships with the research community and work closely alongside our journal Editors and Editorial Boards, as well as Editorial, Marketing, Operation teams.

    WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

    • Commissioning high-quality, relevant content for a range of titles across our journal portfolio, delivering content within specified timeframes.
    • Building trusting relationships with researchers via 1:1 discussion (via email and phone/video). You will discuss potential article collections and submissions to Taylor & Francis journals and assist researchers throughout the development of an article collection. Later, you will work closely with them as they serve as journal ambassador and advocate inviting submissions from their community.
    • Liaising closely with external editors, authors, and other key partners to ensure delivery of submissions.
    • Working closely with your internal team members to build contact pipelines and successfully meet targets.
    • Developing a thorough knowledge of our Editorial Policies and ensuring these are consistently followed.
    • Building your knowledge across subject areas while developing your profile as a Commissioning Editor.
    • Conducting structured analysis of relevant academic fields to identify areas of growth and potential opportunities to drive article submissions across your assigned portfolio.
  • Qualifications

    WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

     

    • Relevant academic/research background in Life Science, Health, or Medicine (or clearly identified equivalent experience)
    • Demonstrable publishing and commissioning experience and positive persuasion skills (or clearly identified equivalent experience)
    • Strong written and verbal communication that can be tailored to different audiences (e.g., editors, academics, researchers, international)
    • Active interest in open access, open data and open science, as well as in publishing and related matters
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to prioritize effectively and to work on tasks with competing deadlines
    • A positive and proactive approach to problem solving in daily tasks and more complex situations
    • Able to work cooperatively at all levels with local and global colleagues and external contact
    • A high level of computer literacy (including MS Office, Outlook, internet browsers; experience with CRM platforms is desirable)

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

     

    • You must have the right to work and live in United States
    • We are only considering candidates on the East Coast as this role will require periodic in-person work from the Philadelphia office (at least monthly)
    • You must be open to occasional flexible working hours to accommodate meetings with colleagues in Europe and Asia

    • Although clear written communication and some light editing skills will be required, this is not a copywriter/content editor role
