    Job Description

    We are seeking an outgoing and organized individual with excellent management, analytical and communication skills to join the team to work as a Journals Content Acquisition Manager, USA across the Taylor & Francis portfolio of journals, including its Open Access titles.

    The key purpose of this role will be to help establish and then lead a highly efficient and dedicated team of Content Acquisition/Commissioning Editors to bring in high-quality article submissions across all subject areas for a broad range of journals and open research publishing venues in the Taylor & Francis portfolio. This will involve helping to recruit and then train a team of Content Acquisition/Commissioning Editors, working with relevant publishing and editorial teams to develop and be responsible for a content development, article solicitation and commissioning strategy, and then managing the team to monitor and refine the strategy as vital to ensure an ongoing solid pipeline of new article content to meet defined company targets. The role will also be hands-on in both analysing scientific fields and growth areas, and engaging with researchers to build awareness of the benefits of publishing with Taylor & Francis, publishing Open Access and open science publishing approaches to contribute to that article pipeline.

    You will have demonstrable experience of developing and delivering a content development strategy, and experience of managing a team and building and refining effective workflows and processes to help build a system that is highly scalable. You must have an active interest in open data and open science, as well as in publishing and related matters.

    WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

    • Establish a Content Acquisition/Commissioning presence in your location
    • Collaborate in the setting up of structured workflows, systems, tools and practices, for use within the team and working with other other relevant teams, helping to create a highly structured system that will become scalable
    • Collaborate in the recruitment and building of a team of Content Acquisition/Commissioning Editors
    • Once established, you will manage the team, set commissioning targets, and oversee the strategies they are using to deliver against those targets
    • Coordinate the commissioning strategies across the team and work closely with the publishing and editorial teams, as well as other global commissioning teams, to monitor and refine the strategy to deliver an ongoing solid pipeline of new article content to meet defined targets across the T&F portfolio
    • Oversee liaison with the publishing and editorial teams on content development strategies, article type and article guideline development
    • Regularly conduct structured analysis of relevant scientific fields using a range of tools to determine areas of growth and potential rich opportunities for acquiring content
    • Identify key target individuals and groups in those communities and use this to develop and implement a structured commissioning plan
    • Network with Open research communities through a range of approaches to ensure content is targeted and developed effectively
    • Introduce research communities to Taylor and Francis and to its Open Access and Open Science activities

    • Demonstrable content acquisition/commissioning experience
    • Experience of line management/team bulding
    • Experience of monitoring and refining workflows
    • Excellent analytical skills, and strong familiarity with key databases and tools to analyse and monitor scientific fields and identify growth areas
    • Excellent communication and influencing skills
    • Strong organisational skills, efficiency and attention to detail
    • Ability to prioritise effectively and to work to (often competing) deadlines
    • A positive and proactive approach to problem solving both in daily tasks and more complex trouble-shooting
    • Able to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels
    • A high level of computer literacy (including MS Office, Outlook and internet browsers)
    • Active interest in open access, open data and open science, as well as in publishing and related matters
