    Position Summary: Team Leader is responsible for ensuring that the bridge is inspected and that the inspection reports are prepared in conformance with the requirements per NYSDOT Specification.

    Compensation is $50.00-$75.00/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Lead inspection team and coordinate teams and equipment
    • Prepare in-office support for field inspection
    • Perform field measurements, evaluate existing conditions and document finding in the field
    • Writing the technical inspection reports
    • Preparation of analysis and ratings for the structure in question
    • Perform calculations including load ratings
    • Development of recommended construction documents for repairs of field condition requiring interim repair (i.e. flagged conditions)

    Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Perform other related duties as assigned

    Required Skills

    Required Experience

    • At least 6 years of bridge experience in design, construction, inspection or other bridge engineering related work
    • Active driver’s license

    Required Training and Certifications

    • New York State Professional Engineer’s License with current Registration

    • Evidence of satisfactory completion of either of the following:

      • FHWA-NHI-130055 – Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges (2-week class)
      • FHWA-NHI-130056– Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers (1-week class)
    • Evidence of satisfactory completion following:

      • FHWA-NHI-130078 – Bridge Inspection Techniques for NTSMs (or historical equivalent)
      • FHWA-NHI-130053 – Bridge Inspection Refresher Training (if applicable)
    • Previous approval by NYSDOT to work as a Team Leader in any Region in the last 18 months.

    • MEWP Type 1, 2, and 3 Training Certificate or Card

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

    • Possess a valid State Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record

    • Mechanical and situational problem solving abilities

    • Organizational skills
    • High School diploma/GED required
