PURCHASING AGENT (BUYER) - ATWATER, CA

SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of a purchasing agent is to ensure sufficient supply of third-party goods and quality of required materials at the best price possible, on time from various qualified suppliers in accordance to MRP demand. The focus is on quality, material availability, inventory investment and pricing. The purchasing agent should remain focused on activities and metrics that drive improved performance in these four areas.

WHAT IT TAKES:

• Support SVP Supply Chain, VP of Procurement, Director Logistics, and Senior Director Supply Chain Finance
• Support management of raw material and indirect spend across multiple manufacturing facilities and corporate headquarters
• Support the execution of a world class distribution model that enhances and optimizes the network as demonstrated through cycle time and cost reductions.
• Prepare annual budget and forecast recommendations, partnering with SVP Supply Chain to combine market and commodity knowledge. Explain variations to budget/forecast/prior year.
• Develop and maintain procurement and logistics reporting packages. Develop and provide key business metrics, indicators, and financial interpretations.
• Understand market forces and track various indices to ensure costs are in line with market movements.
• Provide senior management with reporting on market drivers of costs, related to raw materials and logistics
• Perform monthly accrual updates of supplier rebates and freight expense, and partner with VP Procurement to ensure timely rebate payment from suppliers
• Recommend business and cost improvement strategies. Oversee tracking and reporting of savings projects related to logistics, procurement, and supplier
• Evaluate supplier payment terms to optimize cash conversion cycle. Make recommendations on terms improvements. Track impact of changes in days payable
• Manage logistics compliance chargebacks and deductions with a focus on YOY reductions.
• Provide recommendations on contract negotiations.
• Identify strategic improvement opportunities by benchmarking costs across the industry and recommend strategies to bring savings
• Drive ad hoc projects as required

WHAT YOU NEED:

• Bachelor's in accounting or Finance.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in Accounting or Finance role.
• Procurement, Buyer or Logistics knowledge and experience a plus
• Strong systems capabilities, including modeling and knowledge of ERP
• Think independently and handle multiple projects through to completion
• Excellent collaboration with management and cross functional teams
• Independent work initiative, sound judgment, diplomacy, analytical ability, detail oriented, and professional demeanor
• Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
