Technical Business Analyst

Washington, DC
Full Time
Paid
  • Responsibilities

An established sports retail and e-commerce company is hiring a Technical Business Analyst to sit between the Product Owner, business stakeholders, and the dev team. This is a support role, not a Product Owner seat, the goal is to remove ambiguity so developers spend their time building instead of chasing down what a ticket actually means.

    What you'll do

    • Run workshops and stakeholder interviews to turn high-level requests into clear, actionable requirements
    • Write user stories and acceptance criteria in testable formats (Given/When/Then)
    • Break large features into developer-ready tasks and support backlog grooming
    • Serve as the first point of clarification for developers instead of routing every question back to the business
    • Work with QA to make sure test cases actually match the acceptance criteria
    • Flag edge cases, dependencies, and integration risks before they hit development
    • Maintain documentation, workflows, and user flows so the team isn't relying on tribal knowledge

    What you need

    • Experience as a Business Analyst or Technical Analyst on software development projects
    • Strong grasp of Agile (Scrum, Kanban)
    • Comfortable writing user stories and testable acceptance criteria
    • Hands-on with Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar backlog tools
    • Can build user flows or process diagrams in Figma, Lucidchart, or Miro
    • Working knowledge of web application architecture, LAMP stack familiarity is a plus
    • Sharp attention to detail, good at catching gaps before they become dev problems

    Nice to have

    • Experience working with QA on test plans or UAT
    • Familiarity with UML or BPMN diagrams
    • Exposure to API-driven systems or e-commerce platforms
    • Experience working across multiple stakeholders on complex integrations
