    Job Description

    The Technical Operations Specialist supports T5’s Data Center Operations by enhancing operational performance, standardizing best practices, and ensuring process compliance across the portfolio. Reporting directly to the Technical Program Manager – Data Center Operations (TPM – DCO), this role acts as a technical subject matter expert (SME) and process lead across initiatives that directly impact customer satisfaction, operational readiness, and strategic success.

    This position partners closely with cross-functional stakeholders—including Compliance, Construction, Business Development, EHS, and IT—providing technical insight and operational guidance during transitions, assessments, and strategic initiatives.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Facility Operations & Technical Support

    • Serve as a global technical SME and escalation point for operational programs such as incident response, predictive maintenance, vendor coordination, and site health assessments.

    • Support site teams in resolving infrastructure challenges (e.g., HVAC, UPS, fire/life safety)

    • Conduct due diligence assessments at potential new client sites to identify risks, evaluate operational viability, and support bid/no-bid recommendations for Facilities Management engagements.

    • Collaborate with the Data Center Maintenance Program Manager to support maintenance planning and optimization initiatives.

    • Process Engineering & Tool Development

    • Identify inefficiencies in operations and support services, proposing and implementing scalable process improvements.

    • Design and refine tools using Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate), Excel, and SharePoint for automation, documentation, and portfolio-wide visibility.

    • Participate in pilot programs and test new processes, systems, or policies before enterprise rollout.

    • Policy, Documentation & Compliance

    • Develop and maintain standardized documentation that ensures consistent and compliant facility operations.

    • Assist in ensuring that site teams are following documented processes and security protocols during audits and internal reviews.

    • Act as a liaison between the technical operations team and compliance auditors to ensure accurate interpretation and execution of standards.

    • Conduct operational risk assessments and propose mitigation strategies based on observed trends and industry best practices.

    • Assist in document lifecycle management using SharePoint, incorporating workflows for versioning, alerts, and expiration tracking.

    • Training & Mentorship

    • Provide on-the-ground mentorship and technical coaching for site operations personnel to strengthen preventative, corrective, and emergency response capabilities.

    • Collaborate with the Training Portfolio Manager and their team by contributing to training content, providing operational insights, and supporting program delivery where applicable.

    • Promote operational consistency through peer-to-peer learning and documented best practices.

    • Strategic, Due Diligence & Corporate Support

    • Assist the TPM – DCO with execution of corporate-level initiatives, new customer onboarding, and internal operational strategy rollouts.

    • Lead or contribute to due diligence site visits, capturing technical risk, vendor performance, and operational readiness.

    • Represent Technical Operations in cross-functional initiatives involving Construction, EHS, IT, Business Development (RFPs), and Facility Automation teams.

    • Participate in customer discussions and business reviews, contributing operational expertise and technical credibility.

    • Support mobilization efforts for new accounts by implementing tools, verifying technical readiness, and training key stakeholders.

  • Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Associate’s degree or equivalent technical experience required; Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree preferred.

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mission-critical data center operations, with a strong understanding of operational infrastructure systems and practices.

    • Demonstrated experience in project coordination and operational program support

    • Experience supporting personnel management, including shift-based or non-exempt employees; direct management experience preferred but not required.

    • Practical experience working with safety regulations and standards, including OSHA, NFPA 70E, and related NFPA guidelines.

    • Preferred:

    • Experience supporting RFP development, customer inquiries, and technical reviews for new business opportunities.

    • Experience participating in due diligence assessments, operational audits, and site readiness evaluations preferred

    • Ability and willingness to travel up to 33%, including:

    • Coast-to-coast domestic travel

    • Occasional international assignments

    • Travel for emergency response or unplanned site support

    • Technical expertise in critical facility systems, including mechanical and electrical infrastructure.

    • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including system diagrams, facility operations manuals, and engineering drawings.

    • Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, and other NFPA standards relevant to data center safety and operations.

    • Capacity to identify system and process limitations, recommend improvements, and support implementation.

    • Operational & Strategic Thinking

    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving operational issues.

    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects, balancing business, customer, and operational demands.

    • Demonstrated financial acumen, including experience managing purchasing and supporting cost-effective operational strategies.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting effectively with internal teams, executive leadership, external vendors, and customers.

    • Strong interpersonal and executive presence, with the ability to contribute to high-level discussions around strategy, operations, and customer success.

    • Proficiency in training and mentoring site teams, with a focus on process standardization and effective knowledge transfer.

    • Comfortable participating in and supporting customer-facing business reviews, internal audits, and operational strategy discussions.
