  • Responsibilities

    Avum is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to provide consultative, analytical, and documentation support for various complex projects. The ideal candidate will have proven success in a highly technical field, such as software development, computer science, or engineering. Also important in this role are an ability to evaluate and analyze complex information and a natural desire to help people understand it.

    What You Will Be Doing:

    • Designing, writing, and editing documentation (wiki topics, help topics as well as traditional documents) to help users understand and effectively use new systems and applications.
    • Working with software engineers, quality assurance engineers, product management, and product/solution owners to determine information clients need to know about the product.
    • Writing and editing documentation describing new product features for end users and/or technical users.
    • Editing documentation describing defect fixes, based on a standard template.
    • Conducting reviews with various stakeholders to ensure accuracy of content.
    • Conducting peer reviews with key stakeholders to ensure consistency and quality of the documentation.
    • Working closely with project stakeholders to establish technical processes and procedures.
    • Documenting projects through the SDLC.
    • Providing status reports for multiple ongoing projects and related documentation efforts.
    • Gathering information from subject-matter experts and develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation.
    • Working with development and support leads to identify documentation repositories, revising and editing, and determining best solutions for data compilation and centralized storage.
    • Developing content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, with consistent voice across all documentation.

    What You Will Need: 

    • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret Clearance
    • Three (3) years of technical writing and / or analysis of enterprise software that include developing user guides, system requirements/details, white papers, business process descriptions
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
    • Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical team members
    • Ability to apply experience in Microsoft product suite, including MS Project and MS Office (specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
    • Ability to solve problems, identify risks, and communicate results and recommendations to leadership and customers
    • Experience writer with ability to track, compose, and revise text and layouts for simultaneous projects.
    • Proven ability to communicate effectively with technical, operational, and management audiences with broad and varied backgrounds.
    • Technically capable of employing new tools and related technologies supporting the project, specifically including tools for collaboration and agile scrum artifacts.
    • Possess graphic design skills and experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to bring visual themes to life.

    If You Have This, It’s A Plus

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field.
    • Familiarity with Adobe software suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.), LaTeX, and HTML.
    • Familiarity with the Department of Defense (DoD) Procure-to-Pay processes.

    Location

    The candidate will be required to interact and coordinate with external project team members and other Avum employees remotely, supporting core Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours. As a remote employee, the candidate will not have a permanent office or desk space but may be required to attend in-person meetings. This may require travel to government sites located in Washington, D.C., and the Avum office located in Agoura Hills, California. Our priority is acquiring the most qualified candidate to satisfactorily perform the required tasks, including team collaboration, regardless of the candidate’s geographical location.

    NOTE: This fully remote role requires the candidate to participate in meetings virtually using tools like Microsoft Teams. Online availability during the core Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours, Monday through Friday, will be required.
