  • Responsibilities

    Summary:

    Reads industrial, commercial and residential meters by assigned routes and/or appointment to ensure timely and accurate monthly measurement of gas consumption. Ability to identify and work non-registering equipment including programming and installing IMU devices.

    Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Ability to read gas meters from dials and by operating automated reading equipment: Handheld Mobile Collector unit (IMR).

    • Verifies meter identification numbers and document readings to assure timely and accurate billing of our customers’ gas consumption.

    • Plot daily route using charts, maps, and existing procedures to ensure efficient and timely reading of gas meters.

    • Participate in the continuous improvement of route/cycle structure. Make notes and any changes to location codes, access and data describing customer premises to help other meter readers perform their duties in a safe and more efficient manner.

    • Observe, note and report any irregularities of route, IMR, IMU, vehicle. Report all irregularities to supervision.

    • Respond to our internal and external customers’ requests, questions, and concerns in a manner that meets customer expectations.

    • Partner with internal customer relations department to provide information and help prompt resolutions to customer account and audit requests.

    • Observe, report and document gas leaks, suspected gas theft, or malfunctioning of equipment and other hazardous conditions to ensure customer and employee safety and compliance with company policy.

    • Participate in training and cross training to increase job knowledge and competency.

    • Able to provide and maintain a valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.

    • Identify non-registering IMU’s.

    • Works investigate IMU orders, including ability and knowledge to use the necessary equipment and tools to re-program an existing IMU or to install and program new IMU device on meters.

    • Able to turn off a gas meters in an emergency situation and when work is light, turn off.

    Education:

    Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent knowledge of English, mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and percentages), punctuation, grammar and spelling.

    Experience:

    Requires knowledge of basic gas meter functions: How to read, install an IMU, operate an IMR.

    • Able to demonstrate thorough working knowledge of the policies, practices, procedures and business processes supporting manual meter reading, automatic meter reading and IMU/IMR maintenance processes, including ability to understand and develop working knowledge of software and hardware components.

    • Able to use mainframe software programs such as OFS (Mobile Data).

    • Able to demonstrate ability to operate a personal computer, including working knowledge of word processing software.

    • Able to understand and evaluate software, hardware and other technology.

    • Able to use the proper tools for any given job.

    • Able to demonstrate and utilize effective oral and written communication skills.

    • Able to communicate clearly and effectively with customers on the routes in a courteous and professional manner.

    • Able to meet all physical requirements, competency-based assessments, pre-employment background checks, pre-employment drug screen and other selection criteria determined by the company.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Able to work inside a vehicle and outside for most of the workday.

    • Able to sit for extended periods of time.

    • Able to crawl under low houses and climb a ladder.

    • Able to view a personal computer or laptop screen for extended periods of time.

    • Able to operate a motor vehicle, including ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.

    Working Conditions:

    • Able to adapt easily to changing work schedules.

    • Able to work overtime (scheduled and/or unscheduled, nights and/or weekends) occasionally, as needed or required to meet established deadlines.

    • Able to work with moderate daily pressure to meet deadlines.

    Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety
