Installation & Repair Technician
Job Summary
Provides telecommunications and customer network products and services to residential and business customers by installing, testing, and maintaining facilities and equipment
Essential Job Functions
- Determines project requirements by analyzing service orders and trouble reports, including materials needed
- Utilizes service order plant information by connecting copper and fiber jumpers from central office equipment to cable pairs and fiber optic distribution plant
- Establishes service to customer premises by connecting copper cable pairs, subscriber carrier equipment and fiber optics to drops, protectors and ground assembly
- Establishes customer station connections by installing Category 6 network wiring and jacks, DSL equipment, in-home Ethernet distribution
- Understands & troubleshoot IP Network
- Install & Troubleshoot wireless IP Network
- Responds to trouble reports by analyzing trouble reports; utilizing test equipment; making repairs and recording results; coding out trouble tickets
- Maintains customer relations by making contact with customers to clarify service needs and explain methods to be used to complete service requirements, scheduling appointments, installing service and clearing troubles to satisfy customer needs
- Maintains inventory by keeping truck stock, recording daily material usage
- Maintains safe work environment by keeping work areas neat and clean and utilizing Zirrus, OSHA and industry safety practices
- Maintains technical knowledge by on-the-job training, certifications, and attending educational or vendor learning opportunities
- Contributes to installation and repair department effort by coordinating operations with other departments; recommending options and course of action; implementing directives
- Provides weekend and holiday coverage by participating in scheduled work rotation
- Maintains twenty-four-hour emergency service coverage by participating in on-call scheduling and staggered workforce hours; being available for call-out

- Maintains and safely operates a company vehicle for work assignments
- Driving a company vehicle is an essential job function of this position, therefore you are subject to a MVR check upon hire, and annually thereafter.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in installing, configuring and troubleshooting residential WiFi networks
- Understand and troubleshoot IP network.
- Install & Troubleshoot wireless IP network
- Proficiency in the programming and trouble resolution of customer video equipment
- Knowledge in application of TCP/IP
- Knowledge in application of Ethernet
- Knowledge of basic fiber optics theory
- Knowledge of RUS practices for station installation and repair
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Proficiency with Microsoft Applications – PC and windows software
- Individual judgement and independent decisions required to carry out job duties
- Good verbal communication skills
- Ability to work variable work schedules/shifts, and all overtime as required
- Excellent customer service and communication skills – for both internal and external customers
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Associate's degree in information technology, Telecommunications, Computer Science or Electronics is preferred (any engineering discipline is acceptable)
Valid driver's license
Minimum of 1-year direct customer service experience
WiFi Installation and knowledge preferred
Two years Telecommunications installation, IT or related work is preferred.
Strong technical/computer skills and experience with Microsoft applications is required.
