THE ANCESTRAL LANDS PROGRAM IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO ENGAGE NATIVE AMERICAN YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS. THE URBAN NATIVE CONSERVATION CORPS IS BASED OUT OF LA PLAZITA AND HIRES NATIVE AMERICAN AND YOUNG INDIGENOUS FOLKS FROM THE ALBUQUERQUE AREA AS WELL AS SURROUNDING TRIBES
URBAN NATIVE CONSERVATION CORPS PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Crew Members will be engaged in a 5 person crew for 25 weeks. The crew will engage in conservation experience working along side federal land management agencies to complete meaningful work that will help members gain knowledge of conservation and preservation practices . Participants based out of the Albuquerque office will be completing this work at Petroglyph National Monument, Bernalillo County Open Space areas, City of Albuquerque Open Spaces and the Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge, crews will also have the opportunity to travel and camp, while working with other Federal Agencies throughout the southwest.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Schedule: Members will work approximately 40 hours a week. This position requires sitting, standing, hiking, carrying heavy loads (must be able to lift 50 pounds), bending, and other physically demanding tasks. The Projects are very Labor intensive and may involve strenuous Hikes exceeding 8 miles, may require working in extreme weather conditions including rain, and snow. Crew members will be performing important conservation work that may involve trail maintenance, Habitat Restoration, Park Maintenance, Fence work, and Public Engagement. Members may be required to use power tools, including handsaws, Chainsaws, leaf blowers, and other hand tools in order to complete the project work.

There are no prior experiences needed. we ask that the individual come with an enthusiastic approach and willing to be committed to the work and the program as a whole.
