    ADVANCED MANUFACTURING TRAINING CENTER

     

    OPS LAB ASSISTANT

    TALLAHASSEE COMMUNITY COLLEGE’S WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT DIVISION is looking for a Lab Assistant (OPS) to work at the Kim B. Williams Advanced Manufacturing Training Center (AMTC).  This is a part-time position with a maximum of 25 hours per week.  Typical hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; however, flexibility is a must in this position as part of the job duties include helping with on-site and community events.  Pay range is $8.46 - $18.00 / hour depending on experience.

     

    DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Interact and coordinate with other departments, divisions, and external project stakeholders regarding assigned special projects
    • Help set up, take down, and represent AMTC at various community events
    • Assist with program marketing and facility tours
    • Help with program research
    • Generate list of items that need to be purchased and obtain pricing information
    • Perform repairs or modifications as needed and directed
    • Move equipment and furniture
    • Operate band saw to cut metal (T-bar, grove metal, and pipe coupons)
    • Operate power equipment, power hand tools, and non-power hand tools
    • Safely operate either a propane powered forklift or a battery operated forklift
    • Clean and stock Richardson Building shop and bathrooms
    • Maintain, order, and stock welding supplies (such as rods, MIG wire, flux core, heli-arc rigs, MIG guns, welding stingers)
    • Keep a weekly record of inventory
    • Receive and store inventory for program usage, making sure ordered items and quantities are correct
    • Safely maintain supply of gases used in the welding program
    • Organize equipment, tools, and supplies
    • Have OSHA 1926 card or earn it within one month of beginning work
    • Communicate daily with other program staff either directly or via email and other devices
    • Check in prior to work and at end of work shift with supervisor or other alternative supervisory staff

     

    SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS

    THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL:

     

    • Possess general knowledge of carpentry, industrial machinery maintenance, machining, and manufacturing
    • Know basic welding and be able to demonstrate proficiency
    • Have the ability to learn about basic robotics
    • Have the ability to communicate well, both orally and written.
    • Demonstrate computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Internet)
    • Regularly follow through on assignments and projects
    • Be flexible in working hours and tasks to be accomplished
    • Have the ability to tolerate heat and cold
    • Maintain a positive attitude in a learning environment
    • Be reliable and dependable

     

    MINIMUM EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:  High School Diploma or GED required.  Diploma / Degree from an accredited community college or technical school preferred.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Ability to work safely and proficiently in program areas of welding, machinery maintenance, and machining technologies; to follow written and oral instructions; to work independently and make limited independent judgments; to walk, bend, stoop, climb ladders, stand for long periods of time, work outdoors in all types of weather and temperatures; to lift and carry 75 pounds or more.  The exposure to dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, chemicals, and fumes is possible in the laboratory environment.
