    Department: Community Relations in the Tempe Union High School District

    Reports to: Director of Student Affairs and District Safety in the Tempe Union High School District

    Placement: Tempe Union High School District (Employer of Record is Educational Services, Inc.)

    Position Summary: Perform functions to plan, organize, and implement prevention education, training programs and activities/events that are developmentally and culturally appropriate for students, staff, parents and families. Manages the day-to-day operations of the High School Health and Wellness Program grant with internal and external partners and assures the planning and implementation remains on track. Perform functions to assist in monitoring the development of existing and new programs, while providing support in the areas of training, educating, recruitment, and media. Ensure the quality and integrity of all programs while developing new strategies for growth and expansion.

    Three year full time, 12 month grant-funded position;  Salaryplacement to be determined per grant specifications.

    Goals:

    Develops relationships with school staff, local non-profits, community organizations and coalitions.

    In years two and three, develops new procedures, methods and/or approaches to educating youth and adults about social and emotional health and wellness.

    Gathers and evaluates data and draw logical conclusions.

    Essential Functions:

    Oversees the implementation of research based prevention curriculum and training to youth and/or adults in TUHSD.

    Creates and maintains collaborations with coalitions, non-profits and private business to build capacity to change local conditions around youth risky behaviors.

    Provides support in training speakers to ensure the effectiveness, quality and consistency of youth and adult presentations.

    Ensures that all speakers who complete the training process are qualified and equipped to meet the demands of TUHSD at the highest quality.

    Assists with the development of new programs to enhance the quality of services to students, staff and families.

    Creates awareness of programs in the assigned communities through speaking engagements, face to face and online media avenues.

    Completes documentation required to track, monitor and evaluate program progress and effectiveness.

    Maintains high standards of ethical and professional conduct in adherence to TUHSD policies and procedures.

    Provides appropriate reports as scheduled or requested to the Executive Director of Student Affairs and District Safety.

    Adheres to policies and procedures and rules and regulations to ensure quality control, consistency and accountability in all aspects of TUHSD.

    Enforces all policies and protocols in the best interests of TUHSD, protecting the integrity and credibility of the mission, as it relates to this program.

    Training and Experience:

    Master’s degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling or other human service field.

    High School Diploma/GED and 1 year of cumulative professional experience; or the equivalent of an Arizona Credentialed Prevention Professional Level 1; and

    Two years public speaking experience working with youth prevention programs and/or facilitating groups.

    Knowledge of:

    Knowledge and familiarity of youth risky behaviors and coping skills.

    Principles and techniques of community organizing, health education, public speaking and social marketing.

    Principles and techniques used in developing training materials using a variety of electronic formats and media.

    Leadership Skill In:

    Works independently under limited supervision; organizes work assignments and manage multiple tasks at once.

    Works with individuals from diverse socioeconomic and cultural groups.

    Speaks effectively before groups.

    Writes clearly and concisely.

    Supports and communicates the High School Health and Wellness Program philosophy to all staff, parents, and all high school students on campus

    Directs the implementation of all six (6) primary prevention program strategies

    Establishes agreements with community resources to support students and families including participation in coalitions/community meetings a minimum of once per quarter

    Connects students and parents to appropriate community resources throughout the year including the resource locator at: www.substanceabuse.az.gov.

    Manages a system for data collection and survey distribution.

    Completes required financial and programmatic reports for the grant.

    Participates in mandatory GOYFF training.

    Serves as liaison between the school’s primary prevention grant and GOYFF (staff and statewide evaluation contractor).

    Communicates internally with the Executive Director of Student Affairs and District Safety, each site Administration, teachers, counselors, students and parents.

    Communicates Externally with Coalition, Cities of Phoenix and Tempe, non-profits and community organizations and public agencies.

    Time Commitment:

    50% - Implementation, direct program services, facilitating training

    25% - Capacity Building, relationship building, professional development

    10% - Planning, program development, goals and objectives development

    10% - Evaluation, programs meetings, identifying data sets goals and objectives development

    5% - Manage a system for data collection and survey distribution

    ADA and Other Requirements:

    Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crawling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, fingering, standing, walking, pushing, reaching, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

    Sedentary Work: Exerting up to10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
