    Are you an experienced accounting professional who enjoys digging into the numbers, reconciling accounts, and ensuring financial systems run accurately behind the scenes? Do you take pride in reviewing financial activity, identifying discrepancies, and making sure everything ties back correctly to the general ledger?

    A well-established organization in Amherst, NY is seeking a Temporary Accounting Supervisor to support its Business Affairs team. This position offers $30–$55 per hour depending on experience and provides an excellent opportunity for an analytical, detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys working independently while collaborating with a supportive team environment.

    This role will help oversee key accounting processes, maintain financial records, review transactions, and support internal controls across the organization’s accounting systems. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is comfortable asking questions, reviewing documentation carefully, and taking ownership of accounting tasks from start to finish.

    Responsibilities

    • Monitor daily bank activity and maintain accurate cash controls
    • Reconcile multiple bank accounts and review financial transactions
    • Review and approve invoices, expense reports, and credit card statements
    • Prepare and review adjusting journal entries according to the General Ledger
    • Assist with accounts payable review and expense analysis as needed
    • Maintain electronic financial logs including EFT and payment records
    • Support the monthly closing process and ensure financial data accuracy
    • Assist with financial reporting and analysis for restricted or special funds
    • Review and analyze expenses and financial data when requested by leadership
    • Assist with audit preparation and support auditors by gathering documentation
    • Ensure accounting policies, internal controls, and financial procedures are followed
    • Provide backup support to the Controller and other accounting staff as needed

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
    • 5+ years of accounting experience required
    • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
    • CPA preferred but not required
    • Strong understanding of General Ledger processes and reconciliations
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems
