Temporary Kitchen Assistant Job Description
The Temporary Kitchen Aide is responsible for assisting with the daily operation of the kitchen by preparing and serving meals and snacks, maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment, and providing classroom coverage during staff lunch breaks. The Kitchen Aide will support the center by ensuring food service and classroom operations run smoothly while following all health, safety, and childcare regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Kitchen Responsibilities
Assist with the preparation of breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks according to the daily menu.
Set up food and supplies for meal service.
Portion and distribute meals to classrooms in a timely manner.
Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment.
Clean and sanitize kitchen counters, sinks, tables, appliances, and food preparation areas.
Sweep and mop kitchen floors as needed.
Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and well-stocked throughout the day.
Properly store food items and maintain refrigerator and freezer organization.
Dispose of trash and recycling and maintain clean garbage areas.
Follow all food safety, sanitation, licensing, and center policies.
Classroom Responsibilities
Provide classroom coverage during teachers' lunch breaks.
Supervise children in a safe, nurturing, and respectful manner while maintaining required staff-to-child ratios.
Assist children during mealtime by encouraging positive eating habits and promoting independence.
Support classroom routines and transitions as directed by the classroom teacher or supervisor.
Maintain a clean and orderly classroom environment while providing coverage.
Communicate any concerns regarding children's health, safety, or behavior to the classroom teacher or supervisor.
General Responsibilities
Report any kitchen equipment issues or supply needs to the supervisor.
Maintain professionalism and work cooperatively with all staff.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the daily operations of the center.
Qualifications
Ability to work in a fast-paced childcare environment.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
Ability to interact positively with young children and staff.
Reliable, dependable, punctual, and professional.
Physical Requirements
Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting.
Ability to work in both kitchen and classroom environments.
