    We are looking for a Materials Engineering Technician to join our tech center in Monroe, MI. The primary responsibility is to perform material analysis against Material Engineering Work Orders to internal DRiV™ and Industry Standards (ASTM) in order to qualify materials from suppliers and evaluate the quality of components and processing to support engineering, manufacturing, and quality issues. Typical processes analyzed include chrome plating, hardening/ tempering, ferritic nitrocarburization, powdered metal sintering, and welding processes. The role will perform assembly tear downs in support of failure analysis using both optical and SEM microscopy to determine the physical root cause of the failure. This Materials Engineering Tech will report directly to the Materials Lab Supervisor in Monroe, MI. and will be a valued member of our materials team where we strive to promote from within wherever possible; therefore, opportunities for advancement are strong.

     RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Collect, summarize and communicate test data to business units, product engineering, process engineering, Quality and plant operations (as required)
    • Maintain Materials Laboratory equipment and facilities including calibration and inventory of consumable items.
    • Assist in the maintenance of the test groups IATF16949 and ISO9001 certification and related procedures
    • Review and interpret corrosion / coating test specifications (internal, customer, industry)
    • Set-up Corrosion Laboratory equipment and perform tests and evaluations per specification requirements
    • Perform coating analyses
    • Support and adhere to Tenneco EH&S policies and procedures
    • This position will be required to interface with other test technicians, calibration technicians, and application / development engineers to ensure test requests are performed properly, according to all customer requirements and in accordance with the overall program timeline.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    EDUCATION: Associate’s Degree in Materials, Metallurgy or Chemistry

     

    SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

     

    • Mechanical aptitude for test equipment and measurement operations.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time
    • Excellent computer proficiency especially in Microsoft Office products including – Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
    • Strong Documentation skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Self-starter, self-directed and self-motivated with the ability to function in a dynamic team environment
    • Adhere to Tenneco policies and procedures to promote safety and work quality
    • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting
