  • Responsibilities

    The Shift Sergeant, Security will supervise Public Safety Officers on assigned shift, assist in the conducting of investigations of crimes and accidents, protecting property, facilities, and citizens by law enforcement, and performing related work as required.

    The Shift Sergeant, Security will consistently demonstrate support of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

    Principal Responsibilities

    The Shift Sergeant, Security:

    1. Supervises Public Safety Officers on assigned shift, including preparing shift schedules.
    2. Patrols hospital, ensuring service expectations are met and initiating corrective action as necessary.
    3. Reviews Public Safety Officer incident reports for accuracy.
    4. Monitors work performance of Public Safety Officers and conducts performance reviews.
    5. Provides support for investigating accidents and suspected crimes, reports findings, and pursues appropriate course of action.
    6. Assists in the training of Public Safety Officers
    7. Represents the Security department as a member of Emergency Response Team.
    8. May direct and control traffic; may issue parking citations in the parking garage.
    9. Performs other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

    Required Skills

    Required Experience

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

    1. High school diploma or equivalent education.
    2. 20 Hour Security Training Certificate and PERC Card required.
    3. Valid driver’s license and a good driving record is required.
    4. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine proper course of action
    5. Knowledge of City, and State laws as it relates to Public Safety
    6. Ability to understand and follow oral written instruction
    7. Knowledge of geographic area of the campus
    8. Knowledge of effective methods of investigation with the ability to ascertain facts by personal contact, observations, and the examination of records.
    9. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, the public, and other employees and exhibit outstanding customer service
    10. Ability to enforce laws firmly, tactfully with respect for the rights of others
    11. Ability to supervise the work of others
    12. Ability to operate law enforcement equipment required in the performance of required duties
    13. Working knowledge of a variety of Security Systems related to IT Systems

    Reporting Relationships

    Reports directly to the Director, Security

    Working Conditions

    1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
    2. Must be able to stand and work for long periods.
    3. Occasional risks to personnel safety when confronting and restraining individuals

  • Qualifications
    1. Bachelor degree or above, major in supply chain management, mathematics, statistics, computer, logistics is preferred, and solid data analysis skills;
    2. Proficient in SAP and Skilled in data analysis visualization tools such as PowerBI;
    3. Quick thinking, good logical analysis ability and problem solving ability;
    4. Very good communication and negotiation skills with strong assertiveness;
    5. Advanced written and oral English communication skills.
