  • Responsibilities

     

    The Accounting Coordinator will, under general supervision, perform a variety of clerical accounting duties which require an understanding of the organization’s established bookkeeping and/or accounting procedures.  The primary responsibility of this role will be to record bank transactions.  Other responsibilities include preparing and filing journal entries, analyzing accounts and preparing month end closing packages.  The Accounting Clerk, as needed, provides administrative support to the Accounting Department.

    Principal Responsibilities

     

    The Accounting Coordinator:

     

    1. Prepares general ledger journal entries for all banking transactions, cost transfers, chargebacks, corporate credit cards, Diners Club card and other assigned accounts, ensuring all activity is recorded, corrections are made and adjustments are calculated and posted.
    2. Maintains month-end close journal entry books.
    3. Maintains monthly closing package (example, reconciliation schedules and monthly financial reports).
    4. Prepares and processes cash/check(s) for deposit and maintain deposit register. 
    5. Prepares non-patient invoices, including recording invoices in the general ledger, assigning invoice numbers, and photocopying and sending out invoices.
    6. Assists with tagging of fixed asset equipment.
    7. Supports clerical duties as well as varying general accounting duties as assigned.
    8. Provides assistance to the Finance Department for special projects and in researching questions from operating areas.
    9. Performs other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

     

    Required Skills Required Experience

     

    1. High school diploma required; Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related business field preferred.
    2. Previous experience preparing journal entries and reconciling accounts preferred.
    3. Demonstrated knowledge of basic accounting principles.
    4. Ability to complete mathematical calculations in order to complete required analyses and reports.
    5. Ability to effectively use a personal computer and working knowledge of spreadsheet application to perform data entry and analysis (must be proficient in Excel and Word).
    6. Interpersonal skills needed to explain and interpret ledgers and accounts to employees and managers.
    7. Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with internal/external customers in various circumstances.
    8. Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting in order to maximize quality and efficiently of operations.
    9. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to establish and meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities.

     

    Reporting Relationships

     

    Reports directly to the Associate Director, Treasury Operations

     

    Working Conditions

     

    Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
