    Job Description

    The Electrical Design & Release Engineer is responsible for the design, build, and test electronic controls systems for advanced ride performance systems.  Introduce new technologies as part of the NA Ride Performance (NARP) engineering team.  Projects may include adjustable smart dampers, air suspension systems, and system integration support for existing electromagnetic solenoid adjustable damping products.  Packaging of mechatronics, environmental testing, vehicle integration, and ECU development may be included in responsibilities.



    Required Skills


    Required Experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Control Systems, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
    • New College Graduate with co-op or intern experience in engineering automotive industry or a closely related field

     

    Preferred Required Skills & Experience

     

    • Masters of Science in Electrical or Control System Engineering
    • 5 years of electrical and mechanical engineering background
    • Experience gathering customer requirements and translating them to system functional requirements as well as developing system and component specifications
    • Mechanical and electrical system design knowledge in automotive 
    • Electromechanical engineering experience in development of new technologies
    • Experience with sensor and actuator technologies including solenoids
    • Good analytical skills and ability to identify root cause of issues
    • Basic closed-loop control systems theory and / or calibration experience
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Highly motivated to successfully complete objectives
    • Good time management skills including the ability to set priorities based on aligned objectives
    • Communication skills that readily facilitate summary reporting and cooperative teamwork
    • Efficient use of basic engineering office tools such as email, IM, shared calendars, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
    • Ability to travel to customers, suppliers, and manufacturing locations
    • Support development of SOR’s, FMEA’s and DVP&R’s

     

    Preferred Skills & Experience

     

    • Hands-on experience with successful electromechanical product launches (powertrain, chassis, body, or robotics)
    • V-model system engineering process discipline
    • Expertise in rapid prototyping techniques for controls, such as dSpace AutoBox
    • Knowledge of networks (CAN, Automotive Ethernet, Flexray) is highly desirable
    • Knowledge of automotive diagnostics such as UDS is highly desirable
    • Ability to work with MATLAB and SIMULINK models
    • Understanding of software and ability to validate control system performance
    • Vehicle dynamics expertise and / or simulation experience (CarSim)
    • Experience gathering customer requirements and translating them to system functional requirements
    • Ability to provide leadership in working with suppliers and service providers under contract to Tenneco
    • Self-starter, self-directed and self-motivated but also a strong team player with solid communication skills
    • Follow the New Technology Introduction (NTI) process to assess ideas, create documented records, and progress ideas to production
    • Adhere to Tenneco policies and procedures to promote safety and work quality, adequately leveraging systems to execute design, prototype shop, and test work orders, patent idea submittals, etc.
