  • Responsibilities

    Responsible for the application of welding engineering principles and analytical techniques to develop new and improved group wide manufacturing processes. Develop new welding processes with increased capability by introducing advanced technologies, which contribute to improved product quality and reliability. Review current state product designs, welding equipment and processes and make recommendations regarding enhancements. Write, improve and interpret welding process and machine specifications. Write ECAP (Equipment Capability Acceptance Plan) documents including statistical evaluation of new processes.

    Requirements:

    • Complete engineering releases for new or revised Ignition Products to include process specifications, tooling and tool charts. • Directly support the APQP / product launch management process. • Develop and revise Process FMEA’s. • Maintain current process standards and develop new standards for emerging process technology. • Develop and Implement projects to enhance existing process technology to improve quality and reduce manufacturing cost. • Design and develop prototype tooling to support and evaluate new or revised manufacturing processes. • Responsible for welding development for all new and existing products and standardizing the processes throughout the manufacturing plants. • Assist in the development and technically evaluate capital purchases of new welding equipment and modifications of current equipment to utilize developed processes. • Perform design of experiments and lead the development of prototype welding projects to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials. • Prepare technical reports as result of research and development and preventive maintenance investigations. • Establish welding specification for release into production and assist welding personnel relating to specification restrictions and material processes. • Has the ability to work well in a group setting and is organized and focused. • Promote global manufacturing “Best Practices” within the global Ignition Group. • Provide onsite process engineering support to global manufacturing locations • Travel requirements ~ 50% (Domestic – 70% / International – 30%)

    EXPERIENCE: At minimum: 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in the manufacturing field. Must have experience in weld related processes and in-depth knowledge of welding theory and materials. Experience with laser welding and/or resistance welding is highly desired. Experience with DOE (design of experiments) and six sigma problem solving techniques is preferred.
