    The Nurse Manager has primary responsibility for implementing the mission, vision, policies, goals and objectives of nursing services within their area. As a liaison between nursing and disciplines throughout the SRAlab system of care, the Nurse Manager promotes organizational goals, interdisciplinary and interdepartmental team collaboration. The Nurse Manager allocates fiscal and human resources appropriately to ensure the delivery of quality cost efficient care. Executive decision making occurs to ensure the efficient unit operations.

     

    The Nurse Manager will consistently demonstrate support of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

    Principal Responsibilities

     

    The Nurse Manager:

     

    1. Manages the delivery of nursing care and services within a defined operational nursing unit.
    2. Participates in the development of operating and capital budgets and manages resources.
    3. Manages and monitors staffing/productivity of assigned staff to ensure execution of goals and projects.
    4. Initiates and implements quality improvements in individual, team and organizational performance utilizing SRAlabQI and other mechanisms and facilitates resolution of quality issues (i.e. response time, satisfaction, falls).
    5. Develops and optimizes the performance of team members, resulting in goal attainment, staff motivation and talent retention.
    6. Recruits, trains, coaches, and assesses performance of staff.
    7. Communicates with patients, families and staff to ensure satisfaction and to prevent and resolve conflict.
    8. Partners with other Nurse Managers to provide policy and practice leadership within the organization.
    9. Applies nursing research to clinical practice and participates in nursing research studies.
    10. Oversees the unit's quality monitoring system.
    11. May also develop and provide education and in‐service programs to both staff and students.
    12. Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

     

    1. Bachelor’s degree in nursing required. Masters degree preferred.
    2. Current Illinois license to practice as a Registered Nurse is required.
    3. Current CPR certification required.
    4. Minimum 7 years of experience in clinical nursing (rehabilitation experience preferred), with demonstrated ability to organize, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    5. Practices in accordance with professional practice standards and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
    6. Understanding of the growth and development of infant, child, adolescent, young adult, middle-aged adult and geriatric patients.
    7. Demonstrates the ability to interpret growth and development related information to assure patient needs are met.
    8. Strong analytical skills to assess, plan and implement strategies for successful unit management
    9. Communicates using verbal, non-verbal and written communication to provide leadership, and instruct patients, families, staff to ensure fulfillment of requirements for legal documentation and reimbursement.
    10. Possesses the specialized knowledge and clinical skills necessary to oversee the care provided for people with physical disability and chronic illness.
    11. Demonstrates a high level of initiative and creative problem-solving.
    12. Demonstrates critical thinking skills and makes sound judgments to monitor and respond to patient and staff needs or changes in condition.
    13. Demonstrates financial and business acumen.
    14. Demonstrates a vision for own function, and acts with the broader benefit of SRAlab in mind.
    15. Able to maintain current knowledge of clinical best practices and shares that knowledge and skills with staff.

     

    Reporting Relationships

     

    Reports directly to the Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer

     

     

    Working Conditions

     

    Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
